Passat CC Coupe?
Webster's dictionary says:
A coupe is a four-seater car with a fixed roof, a sloping back, and two doors.
So why in their advert do VW call the Passat CC a coupe when it has 4 doors?

Re: Passat CC Coupe?
The two doors is a modern definition, no?
Coupe used to describe the sloping roofline
I think.
I think it looks okay. Better than a regular Passat.
And good if you have to take a 4 door company
car.

Re: Passat CC Coupe?
I agree, it certainly looks better that the standard Passat, which already seems to have taken over from the Avenis as the private cab of choice.

Re: Passat CC Coupe?
Mate of mine runs a Passat company car
and has a hand-me-down one from the father-in-law.
Looks like he's renewing in a few months
and is going to go for a CC and see if it'll
slip through as a "normal" 4 door saloon.

Re: Passat CC Coupe?
the only modern criteria for a coupe is interior capacity, no of doors has nothing to do with it.
how the passat qualifies as a coupe is beyond me though, its more a 4 door saloon with crap rear headroom like the cls.
its just another made up car sector to try to drive sales figures.

Re: Passat CC Coupe?
Coupe - comes from from the French verb couper, to cut. I guess VW have cut the roofline down so that makes it a coupe.

Having briefly 'owned' one of the 'ugly' ones (was my missus company car for a couple of wheeks while hers was in the shop) I can tell you that plenty of people will buy them, especially if they do drop in price.
Ours was a pretty high spec'd one, and it was blummin lovely to drive, the cabin was as quiet as anything I've ever driven at speed, the driving position was nice and comfy, the ride was just right, and there were plenty of gadgets and gizmos to play with too.
If the price was right, my missus has always said she'd buy one tomorrow. And I agree with her. Nice car.

But what is the point of this car? The head room in the back is non existent because of the roof line. I tried to sit in the back of it at the Geneva Motorshow, but I was way too tall (6 foot 2).
So if you want a coupe, buy a real coupe. And if you need the space (and have no taste), buy a Passat.

It's for the fleet market, were
there are normally rules against
having a 2 door car.

Re: Passat CC Coupe?
i think the point of the P CC, is a statement to the market; VW concedes that the styling of its cars is a bit twee; the CC is VW saying 'hey, we can be risky and edgy, too'.
VW is aware that it needs to add more 'passion' to its cars' styling, and this is its way of saying 'we're trying'. Next up will be the Scirocco, of course, which is growing on me.

Re: Passat CC Coupe?
I like the styling (I like the Merc CLS also) - wonder how it drives though?
The 1.8 petrol engine sounds good with a combined 37.2 mpg and 158bhp.
It should sell well.

Sorry g, if that's the best they can do
The new Scirroco might be, but they didn't have the courage with it either when you look at the original concept. But, then again, I suppose you could argue Alfa did the same with the Brera.

Re: Passat CC Coupe?
If it's a coupe then I'm Dame Thora Hird.
Ditto that Mercedes CLS which the Passat CC is obviously an imitation of.
And ditto the BMW X6. That's a mutant tank.
A car of a sporting nature with a fixed roof, 2 doors, 2 seat/ 2+2 is what I would define as a coupe.
Second thoughts, lets allow 3 doors, the Hyundai Coupe is defintely a coupe in my books. But not the Scirocco, that's just a hatchback car, a Golf that's gone wrong (but in a good way gone wrong).
