Yep, I know have a look at zatzy racing community and you'll see some proper powered Vettes and American car's there. 8sec 1/4 mile cars used on the road.

Agreed. Someone near where I live has a (yellow) Corvette and the thing is so low, it makes my GranSport feel like an SUV

Re: Corvette ZR-1 at the 'Ring

i love that...brute force and sheer brawn combined with a modicum of intelligence and long lasting beefcake looks beats nerdy supergeekdom in a hastily donned superhero outfit...justice........given the choice of the two, id have the chevy every time...the nissan is more of an achievment, no doubt..more of a technological tour de force.....but if i hurled it along a back road, i bet id feel like the car defied the laws of physics.....whereas if i belted the big brute along...id feel WE had defied, and SURVIVED, the laws of physics!!!...more involving, better looking to my eyes and much more characterful....it appeals to the luddite redneck in me whilst the gtr just scares me the same way the dvd player or computer does!!

the kind of person who will buy the ex champ, nissan gtr, which is a fantastic car, is a well to do playstation generation kinda guy who has grown up without the badge preconceptions that many older drivers have....the cars performance and ability are crushing.....but the old 'vette just oozes charm....when the gtr computer has broken, when its fancy dan driving aids etc...have gone up in smoke, the vettes big v8 will still jump into an unstressed early morning roar.....there is no doubt that the gtr may well be the pinnacle of road car design and engineering....but like the 'vette, i have that 'glorious lack of sophistication' that all wanabe rednecks need....so i view it with deep suspicion and ultimate distrust...!!.....the nissan is big AND clever...but the 'vette is crazy...totally bonkers.....and crazy beats clever every time....

Re: Corvette ZR-1 at the 'Ring

This top of the line Corvette will still be priced at about 30% to 40% below the price of a top of the line Porsche 911, and probably half the cost of a new Ferrari F430. With this you get 200+ mph speed.

Over here in the US, the base Corvette has always been a bargain compared to the price of its European rivals. In the December 2004 issue of Car & Driver, they tested a Porsche 911 Carrera against the base Corvette Z51. At that time, the cost of the Porsche was $76,195, while the Corvette was $54,240. With the sinking value of the US dollar, I would guess that the cost of the Porsche is pushing closer to $90K these days. The base Corvette is still in the mid $50K range.

By the way, top speed was 181 mph for the Porsche, 186 for the Corvette. The one referred to in this thread probably tops out at a little over 200 mph. The December 2004 article rated the Corvette above the Porsche, but in my opinion, they are very evenly matched.

Overall, the Corvette has always been a bargain supercar and the newer models even more so. They have been trying to make them smaller and narrower in order to compete over in Europe.

Cheers,

Jeff
