Drove a Maserati 3200 on Saturday...

What a fantastic looking car, though I understand it's a bit of a marmite car.

Bodywork: Rust under the rear arches and upper part of the wing - very shocked to see that, but paint seemed to have lasted with age (2001)

Interior: Surprisingly not as well crafted as I had imagined, I was expecting another leap in quality, in the same way that I perceive the difference from Fiat to Alfa. The arm rest cover felt cheap, most of the switchgear wasn't that impressive and as much as I have always loved the leather dash in pictures...it just didn't seem to have the same level of quality I was expecting. (Same for my friends TVR Cerbera)...I honestly felt my Alfa GTV was better stuck together.

Engine Bay : , not much to add here but it looks fantastic.

Boot: Seemed quite usable with a much lower lip than my GTV

Driving: Unbelievably easy to drive, very easy to use clutch and it was a pleasure to drive. Power delivery was fantastic and it made a great noise. Nice positive response from the steering wheel. Manual gearbox was a bit notchy.

Not quite sure, if it is as worthy an upgrade as I was originally hoping on the whole though....but maybe I should wait till one with the tan interior and a dark blue/black comes on the market (Preferably in the right condition!)

I looked once, but never test drove, shop around for the different combinations, If you can afford to do it, go for it! running costs on a performance car is only ever going to go one way and you only live once! and to say you have a Maserati is very kool!

Luckily my Alfa specialist 'Alfanet' in Bristol, also does a lot of work on Maserati's and Ferrari's, and he is very reasonably priced...so thankfully servicing wouldn't be at Maserati dealer levels. (Some of the past bills were ...... expensive)

Lotus Elise's are a constant attraction as well, not that practical but such a driving experience

Try an auto one too, just to see if you prefer it.

Re: Drove a Maserati 3200 on Saturday...

i love these cars, stunning and quick, more of a tourer than balls out supercar. prices are good now, they start at £15k but and this is a huge but, servicing is obscene. the 68k service starts at £2500 and even a minor service is about a grand, which is just daft.

and i thought Alfas were expensive to service compared to a mondeo they are, but maserati are in a different league.
