Re: Bye bye Merc CLS and hello BMW 535d???

Nothing sorted still ref the car

It might even end up being a like for like replacement for a CLS 320, which is no bad thing, but our confidence in Merc has hit rock bottom during this episode

Theyve changed the link

Got me worried for a second!

JCT600 Approved - Lister Park BMW Used Cars

The Merc CLS is a very classy car and far better looking than the BMW but the Merc is ~£46-48k new, so you'd expect it to be a bloody good car. Shame the one we have is so poor generally

And I'm probably completely mental in posting this, but how about the V6 HDi (from the Jag) new citroen C5? looks amazing. (Bit under budget too!)

(EDITED - probably a bit outclassed, what was I thinking! )

Wildcard given the need to seat 4 and have a decent turn of speed/fun but how about the V10 VW Toerag - can't recall whether they used the same engine in anything else (Pharton ?)

Looking at the new Citroen, even the French don't do French anymore, I mean just where are the croissant holders?

Re: Bye bye Merc CLS and hello BMW 535d???

Bastards at JCT600 refused the rejection based on the car's different faults. Our lawyer suggested to accept offer of new engine otherwise it'll cost us a fortune to fight it plus we have another car out of action.

Merc have given 1 extra years warranty on the CLS and a MY2008 V6 engine+ancillaries has been fitted FOC.

No apologies, no kiss your arse, no flowers. Nothing.

Bunch of sh1ts.

Car seems ok. Took it for a run yesterday. Engine tight but feels actually quicker than the old one. Even without the remap...

Will keep this thread updated...

I'm experiencing deja vu and amnesia at the same time.. I think I've forgotten this before.

Dealerships are full of failed estate agents who don't appear to appreciate the commercial awareness and customer service requirements of their customer base.

Re: Bye bye Merc CLS and hello BMW 535d???

A few days in and the new CLS 2008 engine is a real marvel!!!!!

More powerful, more refined, different sound and better fuel consumption.

I think we've got the S-class version (more powerful!)

Took the CLS out over lunch (instead of the lousy basic billy Focus ARUK have given me) and loved it!

Shame Merc UK are on level par with ARUK for customer service Still no call to see if the CLS is ok, still no engine number for us to send off to the DVLA. Muppets the lot of em....

Re: Bye bye Merc CLS and hello BMW 535d???

The 535d is a superb bit of kit although it's not that great on fuel. The 530d is probably a better all rounder. It's still mighty quick and has decent MPG.
Mercs have been very bad for a mumber of years. In fact I can't actually remember them being all that good. The R107 SL was a nice old thing but the Mercs that didn't drop to bits (i.e the W123 Beirut taxi) were so awful to drive it was kind of irrelevant.

I have to laugh at all these childish anti BMW comments. I've driven both Alfas and BMW's for the last 20 years. I very much doubt the individuals who write such nonsense have, and even fewer could actually afford a new 5 Series anyway.
