Lancia Beta Coupe

Hey Team,

Have noticed this popping up on eBay every now and then:

1981 LANCIA BETA 2000 BEIGE on eBay, also, Fiat Lancia, Classic Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 17-May-08 12:54:37 BST)

Personally, I like them, I've e-mailed him asking if he'll take £300 cash and I can collect tomorrow.

If he's honest and all it requires is a few new tyres (Might as well get 4 if that is the case) and a spot of welding on the sill then I'm quids in.

Working for a truck rental company I have alot of contacts who can supply tyres on the cheap and a bloke called 'Mike the Welder' pops in daily to see if we need anything welding. Well, if I get this, we will,

It looks in decent enough nick with only a bit of arch rust coming through.

I'm thinking if I can buy the car for £300, get it through MOT for another few hundred, it would make a nice little motor for someone. Maybe even me?!

But I digress, I'll see what he comes back with, I've asked the question, and it's only £33 knocked off his start price, and if he's getting fed up with time wasters and having it lying around he might bite my fingers off.

Well, you never know...

Wish me luck!

Darren

It looks a bit of a rot box to me. No matter how good you are at welding you can't weld rust and fresh air.
If you are committed and have access to the gear then go for it, but I suspect it would be worse than it looks on the photo's.

I have actually helped my brother weld up 3 cars, and they are ALWAYS a lot worse than they initially appear at the beginning.

Re: Lancia Beta Coupe

I actually thought it looked pretty good for an X reg Beta Coupe. Sure it will need work, what car wouodn't. From what Ii see the front seat upholstery looked pretty good. That is always a give away of general condition of Lancias of that era. The outer paint looks good, but of course a good 'dig' underneath would be necessary, particularly round the front subframe and its mountings, which is often what killed off Betas prematurely.

When I worked at Autoguard Warranties (1978-1980) our company accountant had a brand new red Beta Coupe. I had a very rusty Peugeot 204 estate car. How jealous was I ??........VERY VERY VERY JEALOUS..so there.

Re: Lancia Beta Coupe

Don't be put off.

It probably needs sill work and the rear strut mountings can get weak and are a difficult repair. I doubt the subframe mountings will be a problem as that was S1 and S2 Saloons. At the end of the day its a £300 punt on a 25 year old car in a period colour. They are aggressive little things that are very driveable.

Good luck

Re: Lancia Beta Coupe

It's only £300 and I agree with AL the upholstery looks very good. So why not?

There are enough rusty blisters and the crappy engine bay would make me want to visit and have a poke around the underside. It may well need more than a small patch welding on a sill.

If you do get it, be wary of the brakes. I'm not sure if the later series fixed it but they were woeful on the earlier models and MonteCarlos.
