Re: jeeps, should i??
nothing wrong with big suv's/4x4's, just dont buy a jeep they are awful.
range rover is the way to go. the ride of a big saloon with the off road capability of a proper land rover. and they look the dogs.

Re: jeeps, should i??
i dont see the appeal, however if you need a 4x4 get a proper one. understand if you cant afford one, i certainly cant. in that case DONT.
jeep is just playing at it, and you get what you pay for.
if it dont end in 'rover/landcruiser then most likely its a pile of s**t

Re: jeeps, should i??
I understand the appeal..... My wife sold her Mini and got a "soft-roader" X-Trail a month or two back.... fun, ... in a different way.
But selling my Alfa to buy a SUV ? Never.
Don't do it, you will regret it later.

Re: jeeps, should i??
With a 2.5 Turbo Subaru Forester
you'd not be plodding along.
Edit: 0-60 for the 2.5 is actually 6 sec!
and you could also get a remap.

Re: jeeps, should i??
I'd certainly be tempted by a Forrester; ridiculous bit of kit, bags of power, bags of grip, and high enough that you can see over hedges and maintain speed

Re: jeeps, should i??
My dad and his missus bought a Ssyangyon Rexton a while back, and it's great apparently, apart from the fact it's Korean and most people hate anything car related that's Korean,
Looks nice and goes well so I suppose that's all that matters.

Re: jeeps, should i??
I filled up the Younger Mrs S.'s Cinquecento on Sunday. It cost £33.
Lady at the pump next to me filled up her Land Rover.. It cost £92.

I have no idea where Jamestown is but if you live in an urban area, you'll miss the superior driving dynamics of the GT. If you live in the sticks, maybe a nice LR would be good

Re: jeeps, should i??
Whats wrong with a Jeep Wrangler? Its the only 4x4 i can think of that has any credability to it. Down side is you need a lot of nice weather.

Try driving across America in one.
They are ****ing dire on the road.
You are right about the off-road/snow
ability, especially one with a fully armoured
underside. But nothing an LR 90 couldn't
do.
Problem with the Wrangler in the UK is it's
a bit of a gay icon.

Oh no !!!! Where do I begin ??? They are dire. The worst build quality in the class, even the Koreans are built better, terrible plastic interiors, even worse fuel consumption, and to be honest, not all that great off road.
They are "trail rated" , which may mean something in the States, but in Africa they do not survive. They are OK on gravel roads, but not in mud or loose stuff. And terrible on the road....
If you really want a 4x4 that you can live with on a daily basis, Disco or Freelander would be the way to go, or look at the Koreans, they are now doing some excellent off-roaders.

Re: jeeps, should i??
Toyota is the way for a 4x4 - we have a Landcruiser which we bought new in 1998. It now has 200k kms and has never missed a beat - just regular servicing.
In this country nothing lasts better than a Toyota or Nissan. Jeeps, Land / Range Rover, Mitsubishi etc just dont last.
But in the UK with the price of fuel I wouldnt bother unless you needed one for offroad. My sister in London drives a Merc AMG ML55 - mainly to take 2 huge dogs to the park but it is hellish quick for a 4x4 with 340bhp

Re: jeeps, should i??
i live near loch lomond, so long roads and good to put the boot down in the alfa, i will stick to my alfa, classier and faster and the alfa takes just over £60 to fill and that sickens me so would hate putting £90 plus in a big landrover or similar!
