Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
I was only reading a couple of weeks ago a statement from Ford (their CEO at Geneva IIRC ) that there's was "No way they were going to revive the Capri"
The bloody fibbers
If they make a modern day RS3100 that may be

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
Just read the other day, a road test and report on the new Mondeo range : It says it delivers real driving quality, and builds on it's acclaimed dynamics. Titanium X2 2.0 TDCi (diesel : ) is a cracker to drive, so it says? :

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
Front looks good but the back looks awful!
And it'll essentially be a Focus underneath, so no RWD action from Ford..

I think it looks like that new little volvo hatch they just brought out.
Not really very 'capri like either' except in name

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
The last time they said they were going to re-invent the Capri, we got the Probe, and what a bag of crap that was.

Focus is a good car, handles very well for a hatchback. Not sure if it really is a 'sports car' though, like the original Capri was supposed to be..

Wasn't the Cougar supposed to be the new Capri? That wasn't a bad car, didn't sell all that well though..

The Probe was marketed (initially) as a replacement for the Capri !!

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
It looks nothing like a Capri. Just another eurobox that could have any number of names on it.

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
Best it'll be a reworked Mazda with a dodgy name.
Just like the Ford Anal Probe was.

They'd do well to base it on an RX-8 but with a proper engine in it, like the Volvo 5-cyl turbo motor. The only reason I wouldn't buy an RX-8 is cause of the hairdryer they call an engine under the bonnet.

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
Under the skin, it’s likely that Ford will follow VW’s approach with the Scirocco, which sits on the Golf platform, and base the car around the Focus. That will mean a front-wheel-drive layout
Then (and I'm sorry to be pedantic) it's NOT A SMEGGING CAPRI!!!!!

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
They will never re-invent the capri. they have tried and failed twice already.
The only decent Ford Coupe in recent times was the Puma IMO.
That new one looks a bit like a Mazda RX8

Yeah, the Puma with 1.7l Zetec engine was a stormer. When I had a Mazda 323 I took a Puma for a test drive and was gobsmacked about how fast it was!
If this one looks like the RX-8, hopefully it'll have RX-8 underpinnings. They are good car if not for the engine. But stick a 4 or 5 cylinder Ford or Volvo lump under the bonnet, sell it cheap enough and it'll be massively popular.

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
When I saw the thread title, I was expecting a more Mini/Beetle/500 retro look.
I do think that the rear quarter view looks very Alfa Romeo MiTo

Hmmm. The Capri should never have been made in the first place. And I agree with Padders. A rival to the MiTo.

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn
I've said before how much I loath this xyz launches new Capri/Sud/2CV. You CANNOT re-introduce an old car, unless you introduce the old car. The 147 is not a 'modern' Sud. It's a 147. Which is one of the reasons why it is called a 147. Now we have a new Capri. Erm, no, we don't. We have a new coupe using Mazda and Volvo design cues (I wonder why...). And is FWD.
How much of it is down to the magazine calling it the new Capri v the magazine doing so, I'm not sure. But I do so hope Ford doesn't call it the Capri.
