Re: New Ford Capri Reborn

Yeah but...

It's not a Capri is it...?

If they want a "new Capri" then they have to stop being lazy F***s and make a proper Capri. It doesn't have to be RWD or any of that nonsense.. bu it absolutely must *look* like a Capri. Long bonnet, preferably bluff front and short rear overhang.

Dodge made their Charger look like the old one..
Ford made their Mustang look like the old one..
Fiat made the 500 look like the old one..
BMW even made their FATI look like a BL Mini.. (if you squint a bit and ignore the over-small roof)

All Ford have done is take a design student's rejected 2-door design for a Mazda 2-door coupe and stuck a Capri badge on it..

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn

Just like with the new Scirocco, this also looks nothing like it's original, which isn't a good thing because both the Capri and the Scirocco were brilliant cars. Looks wise and drive wise.

The new Capri just looks like a 2 door Mondeo to me,

Not a fan to be honest.

From everything I've read the new Scirocco is also a brilliant car and I suspect the new Capri won't be too shabby in the driving department either.

Oh absolutely not, they will drive MUCH better than their olden day counterparts, but I feel that the general appearance and design of the cars has lost alot from that of the 70's and 80's.

How woefully disappointing. No RWD. Bland. Unadventurous. Crap.

No 70s man with a hairy chest would be seen dead in that.

It'll be driven by Estate Agents and DJs.

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn

My dad has had quite a few Capri's. The first car I went in (on the way back from the hospital where I was born) was a 2 litre Mk1 with the V4 engine. He has also had a 1.6L Mk (in Beige) as a runabout, a Mk3 2 litre laser, and a 2.8 injection.

Obviously the 2.8 was the most fun, especially in the wet. its a shame the Capri got a bad image, because the car itself was great (for a Ford)

I don't think they could make a new Capri, at least not one that is a true spiritual successor.

The Probe and Cougar have shown Ford are unable to replace it, though I do like the Puma. The Puma is not manly enough to replace the capri.

Fiat Coupe 20VT, mildly tuned to 260bhp

Elephants are scared of mice. And to prove it there are no Elephants in my shed.

That would be good. The puma is one of the few recent Fords that I like.
I might even consider buying one at some stage, especially as they are pretty good on fuel, handle exceptionally, and are fairly nippy.

I agree, I think the Puma is an ace little car. The 1.7i I drove was fantastic, I imagine the 1.7i Racing must be great

Re: New Ford Capri Reborn

was gonna say I thought it looked a lot like the Alfa GT in 8C red I drooled over at Goodwood FoS last week, but I think I'll get shot down in flames, so I'll shut up
