With its Focus underpinnings it should be a pretty decent driver's car for an everyday hatchback.. Volvo have probably done their usual trick of fitting springs from an old, worn mattress though

Re: I really shouldn't..but i love this car!!! Sorry.

Sorry everybody, but this is most certainly not one of 'Volvos' best looking cars for a long time.
This, imo, is an ugly car.
Just another manufacturer trying to cash in on 'nosatlgic' moment.
Who else has done this???? Oh yes there'll be the Mini, Beetle, Fiat 500, Ford Mustang, Ford GT40 and...uhm....well I know there are more but you know what it's like simply can't think of them when you need to. I'm you'll all remind everyone..

I'm afraid I see nothing "retro" about this. However, I agree with you, not much to look at.
It looks like dozens of other small cars, though...

Re: I really shouldn't..but i love this car!!! Sorry.

Volvo were try to replicate the '480' of the late '80s. It seems that even the car makers realise how boring there current offerings are and focusing back to the 'good old days'.
Isn't that what the British car industry continually did and disappeared into nothing?

I think the C30 is cool, only with the T5 engine though and it looks pretty good in white.

Re: I really shouldn't..but i love this car!!! Sorry.

I disagree. It is unavoidably being compared to the 480, because it's the first time since they've done a similar car. But I don't think it's very similar to it at all. It would hardly be in Volvo's interest to attempt anyway, it's not like the 480 is a style icon.

The C30 is an S40 turned into a hatchback, and that's exactly what it looks like, nothing retro involved.

Test drove a C30 when we looked at the V50 a few months ago and it was a brilliant drive, a bit cramped inside, but cool car

Re: I really shouldn't..but i love this car!!! Sorry.

My sister has just got one.. She loves it. The 1.6 version mind. I keep reminding her my engine is double the size of hers.. Then she reminds me how cheap the volvo is to run.

I think its supposed to be a throw back to the P1800 (estate version of the Saint classic) from the 1960's not the 80's version

Re: I really shouldn't..but i love this car!!! Sorry.

I was checking the Volvo website this morning,
I'm due to change cars early next year, with no news yet on the 149 it seems very unlikely it will be available in the first half of 2009, (I could be persuaded to hold off for a month or two, but not much more). I don't really want another 147, been there, done that, it's been great, but I would prefer something fresh. I really like the new Alfas (159/Brera), but I don't think the budget will be available for the 159 I would want, especially as the 2.4JTD Turismo has been done away with.

So I've been doing the nasty and started thinking about my alternatives .

So anyway, there I was checking out the C30 & S40 D5, which according to the 'expect to pay' figures in the magazines might just be do-able, but I sort of don't want it to be.
I think the C30 is cool (on paper anyway), but it's just not an Alfa

Re: I really shouldn't..but i love this car!!! Sorry.

very cool....and supposed to be very nice to drive....a more comfortble focus with about 10% less sharpness.....a less 'focussed' focus if ya like.....and the 5 pot has always been a volvo unit anyhow so its back where it belongs....apparantley tho, they are selling more like hot cabbage than hot cakes so deals galore are available should you wanna buy one......

Not sure about that, if memory serves, EVO think more of this than the Focus ST. Having said that, they don't rate the ST at all.

Does nothing for me I am afraid. But it does not offend

Re: I really shouldn't..but i love this car!!! Sorry.

'car' magazine felt that the volvo was more comfortable and maybe just as fast a to b, it just lacked the fords last few percent of turn in and grip...less incisive, a bit softer.......sounds like id prefer it then cos im old and fat...

Meh! S'alright I s'pose, it's certainly ... different.

A Ripspeed styled car for the older generation?

After all, it's still a Vulvo.
