Re: 1998 BMW 540i V8 Manual

I had the Toyo's on My Nissan and I thought they were crap, especially through standing water.

So I put Eagle GSD3's on the front of Alfa that I owned that is now Darrens and I thought they were great.

I hate BMW's, but any 4 litre v8 RWD car deserves attention. I look forward to your pictures and feedback.

(Anything to make me forget the barge I am driving now.....)

Ah, now then, they work amazingly well! Brilliant handling, but I also think that's to do with the car as well. SP3 baby!

4.4 Litre V8 I'll have you know,

I've never been a mega fan of the types of people that drive BMW's but I've personally always liked them as a make. Good, solid, quality cars that can take as many miles as you can throw at them.

I just really hope the car has 'character'. I fall in love quite easily with cars and grow quite attached if I find the right one.

The Alfa is one of those cars,

Hopefully the Beamer will be too.

I think thats the only thing you've got to worry it bout.. It'll be fast and handle well (maybe not as nippy as the 156 though), but it might be lacking in character. The M3 I drove felt like this, as much as I wanted to love the car, after I got out all I had was a lot of respect..

But a good exhaust system should let the character flow

Re: 1998 BMW 540i V8 Manual

My dads Beemer was a bit of a lumbering barge in comparison to the Alfa on the twisties, even with sport suspension and 17" rims. But then the Alfa was exceptionally good.

The beemer really kicked ass on the straights though.

I am pretty sure it had the M tech suspension. It was quite low in comparison to most 5 series.
I'll try and dig out some pictures of it later.

Re: 1998 BMW 540i V8 Manual

Grr, bloody let down merchants!

My 'mate' Alex who was supposed to be taking me down got completely blotto'd last night instead! Stupid baz is still recovering I assume as I haven't been able to get hold of him at all. His missus answered the phone and said he'd left the phone at her place and she didn't know where he was.

He's either still there and doesn't want to take me because he's stil ****ed or he'd sleeping it off at his Aunties, where he lives.

Called the bloke up to see if I could come later on this afternoon and apparently he's off to watch the football, fair enough I suppose, And he won't be back until much later this evening.

Ah well, we've arranged it for tomorrow instead, so today I have to make fresh arrangements to get there for tomorrow. Luckily the blokes available all day tomorrow.

Ah well, I guess I'll have to wait one more day.

Blah, my mates are all crap,

Yep, I found out my insurance company, Admiral, want another £150 for the 540i. Fair enough I suppose, I'm only 22 with 3 years NCB. Not too bad really.

I might wait until I get back from Spain before insuring it anyway, it has no tax anyway so I'll need to do that as well.

Not your virtual ones surely?
Enjoy the Beemer, they are good honest, I had a little 3 series for a few years and they do deserve respect, the general std owner however will not appreciate the cars finer qualities, only the badge, which is a shame, as I feel you will enjoy ragging the 4rse off it.

I am astounded by all the comments about RWD (not back wheel drive either please ) as I find a FWD tricky to handle, wet or dry.
My 3 series was a little ass happy at first, but a pair of goodyear eagles and some gas shocks sorted that out, In the wet I could take it around the double S bends into our village at 60, around about the same speed I can manage the same bends in my 156 In the dry....
Front wheel drive is cr4p for handling, except on very tight low speed bends, and RWD is better then esp if you steer with the throttle

And before anyone dispute RWD is king, where does the power go in Lewis' company car? and if FWD was better, wouldn't F1 cars steer friom the front

The 156 is the only FWD car I have ever enjoyed driving, everything else was just transport

Hammy: Don't worry, I still love you,

Snokio: No pictures I'm afriad.

Jason: My virtual mates are way better than the ones I actually have to meet! And yeah, I would enjoy blitzing the arse off the car,

But...

I got a message at 8PM tonight from the guy selling it:
"sorry darren 540 sold"

Brilliant!

So, there's another wasted thread,

Ah well, let's ditch this thread and move onto the next one.

Cheers for all of the help and advice though guys, just a shame the bloke sold the bloody thing before I got a chance to even see it,
