Saw a new A4 today.........

........well, it was a bland silver car-shaped thing with spangly lights on the front so I assume that's what it was.

Re: Saw a new A4 today.........

Never owned an Audi but I think they have lost their way lately when it comes to design, as have BMW. Their early 90s stuff was much better.

Re: Saw a new A4 today.........

It was the simple elegance of the designs I liked - but it has morphed into utter blandness, which they sometimes try to overcome with lots of shiny bits (s-line, anyone?). But it's the driveability of the damn things - jittery and lifeless at the same time.

Alfa is far superior in so many ways, but you wouldn't believe it to read the press.

This harks back to Ford's 80 shades of white in the 80's...

Re: Saw a new A4 today.........

There is a touch of bling about them now whereas they used to be quite under-stated.

I've also noticed their drivers are becoming a bit more BMW too if you know what I mean.

And I had an Audi new in '96.

My dad had an Audi 80 years ago. It was about 3 y-o when he got it, I think.

It was a good small-ish car. It's the only one he ever had that went up in flames -literally - whilst in traffic. Great build quality Oddly though he only ever really hated Vauxhalls after having loads of minor breakdowns and niggles with a new Victor 101 (yuk) back in the 60's. He swore never to own another and never did.

I've never been keen although I have fond memories of my Chevette HS rally car.

Soz - off topic meandering there!

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Under the hood, you and me are the same (Lightning McQueen)

Re: Saw a new A4 today.........

Getting to bland - where has the old quattro style gone.

The only one I would take is the RS4

Re: Saw a new A4 today.........

Funnily enough I've seen a few new A4s already and I quite like the styling inside and out. Not as pretty as the 159 but still better than BMW.

Many of my colleagues like the styling too.

Maybe you just don't like German cars, Fraser?

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder...

In the end, a car is to get you from A to B comfortably and with no issues hopefully.

Anyway, how come there are only 7 colours to choose from on the Alfa 159 site now?

White, 2 * black, red and 3 silver/grey?

TTFN

Edwin

Re: Saw a new A4 today.........

I followed one today. Had a little kick up on the bootlid like a Pug 407 which looked OK but then as it turned off it had those strange wonky lines down the side that Audi have started doing. Grim.

Anyway no doubt it will become the object of desire for thrusting copier salesmen everywhere!

All 'silver' cars are the same generic road-spray-grey so the owners don't have to bother looking after them.

I've had my share of German cars (2 Golfs, an Opel Manta , Audi A4, prolonged loan of BMW 5-series). Only the Golf GTi (a mark 2) ever did anything for me - the BMW, Audi and Opel were all well and truly over-hyped average-mobiles.

Opel is Vauxhall really though, which is GM, and there is a GM engine in the Alfa 159 - thus Alfas are partly German!
