Re: yellow Lancia Monte Carlo on autotrader

I fancied one of those, back in the eighties.: My bruvver' worked at a Lancia Fiat agent round about then, and they had a sort of tongue in cheek name for them, at that time. They referred to them as the Monty Python, but I still wanted one, but ended up with a Beta HPE instead.:

Re: yellow Lancia Monte Carlo on autotrader

They were, and still are a looker, if you can find a good one. The brother and his fellow salesmen were never given the Monty as demo. motors, he had the 1600 Beta, as a company car, so I reckon there was a bit of envy there. But he did say that it looked the part, but the handling was a bit of a joke, hence the Monty Python tagging. Jealousy really?

nice one - always good to get that inside perspective

I remember looking at these as a kid and coveting them (from the photo in my Observer book of automobiles)

Absolutely love the monte's, a friend of mine has one. It quite a special one actually with a period body kit and period alloys and a beasty Guy Croft twin cam. In fact you will find it in one of Guy's many books. I'll have to dig out some pictures, they're quite a special car really.

Re: yellow Lancia Monte Carlo on autotrader

Guy Crofts tuning for, Lancias/ Alfas rings a bell?.: Best part, or one of the best parts about the two litre HPE I had, was the ease of cambelt replacement.: No contra rotating balancer shafts, and the tensioner had a big spring on it, so the tension was pre-set. Never had any mechanical problems with her worthy of mention. Then cometh' 16V Turboed Thema. Thank you for flying 1st class Lancia Airways.

Guy is most famed for his work on fiat/lancia twin cam engines. He practically made them!

Thema Turbo - I remember that - over 200bhp (100bhp /litre) brilliant stuff. Not that heavy, large boot - nice suede interior

Re: yellow Lancia Monte Carlo on autotrader

Beauty with the Themas motor was they went like stink with reliability.: BWE of the Elephant, reckoned he was able to get 300 bhp out of similar engines, if I remember correctly. Mine was rapid enough for my requirements, cruised it at, well, reasonably fast when I felt like it.:

Re: yellow Lancia Monte Carlo on autotrader

They did the volumex, super charged when I was looking at Montys back then. That was the finale, I believe? As rapid as the turboed 16 valver, or not quite? Instant power, no lag, but the two stage turbo once she was rolling had to be experienced, when the spine nudged the abdominals!

Re: yellow Lancia Monte Carlo on autotrader

Lancia developed Alcantara I seem to remember? Two wee tags on the sides of the front seats, stating Alcantara by Lancia. Had to buzz the old electric razor over it sometimes.:

Re: yellow Lancia Monte Carlo on autotrader

Yep! a time tested, good looker, and probably a darn sight more reliable than this stupid computer of mine!! Seemed to be absolutely 'Bananas' so I stopped using the pesky electronic contraption, until now that is.: Gave it a back to factory re-set, and then spent ages getting it to accept all the software again!: Lots of malicious stuff picked up from those 'Dodgy Sites' I guess. Hey! back to my old tricks, well off topic, this is about the great, late, Monty. Apologises,:
