New Giulietta on the way...

Evening all,

Finalised the deal on a new 1.6 Giulietta Veloce in anthracite grey. Will miss my MiTo a lot, now for the 10-12 week wait...

Yes went through MS and I believe I got a good deal yes with a few extras thrown in. I got good part exchange on my MiTo if I was willing to give it to them immediately so I am without a car at the moment...

I went for the Veloce trim as it added the most desirable extras in my opinion, I couldn't stretch the budget further unfortunately for anything else. I'm not sure if it is the same colour as graphite grey, I think it may be a shade darker.

Actually I think I know the colour you mean

Veloce is the way to go. If the options list is anything like the MiTo it can get very expensive. I took the paint and 18" wheels and left it at that

Giulietta 1.6 JTDm Lusso

My new Giulietta is on it's way too! Due 5th April. Gone for 1.6 JTDm Lusso but I've got the Veloce wheels as I think they look better than the standard. Have also gone for Alfa Metalic Red as couldn't afford the 8C. Really looking forward to getting it - will certainly be more exciting and get more looks than the Clio I'm currently driving!

MS has uploaded a few Giulietta's onto Used Cars NI. Compare the prices to UK and it looks like we are being ripped off!!!

Used car prices here are generally higher but certainly MS know how to really make their %. They know most people are too lazy to go to GB.

If I had the only Alfa franchise in the six counties, I'd be bending over backwards to get as many folks into the marque as possible. Never dealt with them but a contemptuous approach is not the way to go about it.

I ordered it just after Christmas and they have put back the delivery date by about three weeks from when they first promised it would be here. It's a company car though and I'm not sure whether it was just the leasing company being slow!

The leasing company also got mixed up between 'Special Paint' and 'Metalic Paint'. I want Alfa Metalic Red but because someone at the office got confused I can't help thinking I'll get solid red. I did get them to phone up Alfa and check and they said the right colour had been ordered but I still reckon they think 'Special Paint' and 'Metalic Paint' are the same thing!

Usually their prices come down to more realistic levels once the cars have sat a while but it's the main reason I've never bought from them before. I've tried to deal with them on new cars and they've been really poor on p/x and refusing to budge on list price. The Giulietta is on a lease so hard to go wrong there really.

At the end of the day they're a business and if punters are willing to pay the prices then you can't really blame them. The sales staff know their stuff and are enthusiastic about the marque and I've always been well received even if I've given them a hard time over pricing and not been able to close a deal on a number of occasions.

The only gripe I had was at handover of the Giulietta and I made it clear to the salesman that I wasn't happy. I also marked them well down for this during the phone survey from Alfa after I got the car.

I'll always go to MS first before trying elsewhere but I'm happy to go to the mainland for significant savings if that's what it takes.

Hard work never killed anyone.

That’s the trouble – I want to engage in something that has a little danger to it

May I ask what went wrong at hand over? I am one week into my 12 week Giulietta wait, don't want it to come to an annoying finish with a disappointing hand over...

No problems with the car...just the salesman. Where I used to buy my cars, the salesman always kept himself free for handover. The guy in MS was with another customer when I went to collect mine (at a pre-arranged time) and was kept waiting for almost an hour. I had come over with the wife in her car and was getting in to drive home when he eventually became 'available' again.

Car parked outside up on the kerb and a relatively rushed handover as I needed away (and was late) for another appointment. None of the buildup and unveiling that other dealers seem to give.

I was fuming but managed to keep my temper relatively under control. Eventually received an apology but the experience was soured by then. Unfortunate as everyone had been very good up until then.

It's a shame to hear that. I must have been fortunate with my MiTo hand over. They had the Alfa red cover over the car in the showroom ready for the unveil. I agree that if you have a pre arranged time to meet a salesman, they should be at the ready to provide you with me an excellent consumer experience given you are party with a hefty bit of cash...

I have changed my mind on colour. Amended the order and went with white. As soon as I started looking at buying a G I wanted it in white, but some people put me off. I have gone with my heart just another 10 weeks to wait...

Giulietta 2.0 170 manual

Is MS still on the Boucher Road?

Just remember the Derry/Newry/Antrim switch...
Go into the Waterside, find a man wearing a bowler hat and sash and ask him where Derry is. That's when you need the car in D
When you're crossing the border at Newry, watch out for the speed cops, keep the car in N (OK, it's been 10 years since I've done that drive, but they were always on the A1 around there)
And finally when you're going up through the Glens of Antrim and the roads are icy, put it in A.
