DPF removal and remap in NI
Does anyone know of anywhere in NI where the DPF removal and re-map can be done on the 2.4 diesel engine?

Torque Tronix seems popular on the NI forums but I don't have any personal experience of them.
Might be worth a try.

I hadn't heard of Torquetronix. Kells is quite handy, so I might call in to see them.

Torque Tronix in Ballymena are about the best in Northern Ireland and you wont be dissappointed using them

I had an interesting discussion with a local remapping firm. Apparently in NI a car will fail its MOT if the DPF has been removed. Legislation was changed recently to make it a requirement that a factory fitted DPF must be present and working at MOT.
I suspect that the inferior MOT system on the mainland doesn't have this requirement.

TorqueTronix don't have any Alfa's listed on their site - anyone actually used them for a remap? Was thinking of a cheeky upgrade on the V6.

I spoke to torque tronix a while back and I was told they have done alfas before and even went so far as to give me estimates on what they could do for my 147 Ducati quite possibly pushing it above 200bhp. The reason I didnt go for it at the time was the fact that my warranty was still valid and remapping would invalidate that and I like to keep everything sweet with insurance. I have no idea why they dont list alfas as the guy did say that they have definately done them in the past...even claiming they have done another Q2 Ducati before.

Hi Guys, Torque tronix remapped my 156 (2.4jtd) And she goes like a flying machine since. Can't complain with what they did for me if that's any help to you.

(ref alipet 11) I don't know about the DPF being mandatory in NI for cars originally so fitted. A re-map man told me that his method is to remove the interior of the DPF, and weld it up again. According to him MoT can't tell the difference. I want to have mine removed, but am still researching.

Yes, that's how it was explained to me. If the DPF is removed, the car will fail MOT, hence this workaround.
I'll be interested to know if you go ahead with DPF removal/rework. It doesn't seem to be common practice in NI.

DPF removal in NI
You're on the ball quickly Alipet. I think that we have been talking to the same person. My thinking at the moment is to put a lot more miles on, so as to have a better idea of the present behaviour of the car.In particular how it is affected by different styles of driving. Just to-day I drove over Orra and then down Glendun, mostly on a trailing throttle. By the time I reached the Viaduct the current consumption had dropped to the thirties (or was it the twenties ?) at quite low road speeds. I then kept the revs up to 2 or 2.5 in the lower gears for a while. The overall on reaching home was 43.1mpg and 32mph. Not great for the type of journey. The implications of, first warranty and then MoT make me cautious about removal. Removal and replacement with a plain pipe would work, but have to be changed back for MoT. A pain in the exhaust pipe. I think a re-map might help.

It was Torquetronix, outside Ballymena that I spoke to. I kind of want to go ahead with the mod, but I'd really prefer the Alfatune mod which seems to be very successful on the mainland. I don't know if the Torquetronix mod would be much different. Is there a risk that they could do damage to the car if they get it wrong? It's a lot of money to spend on somethiing I'm not really confident of.

I would suggest going to the maninland and using a specialist.
I wouldnt get a remap from someone with a lack of Alfa Experience...what map will they use????
'Done Alfa's before' is a long way from knowing what your doing.
Never used Torque Tronix, but have a look at google for opinions before using them

I haven't ruled out the possibilty of going to the mainland for a remap, but that would add about £300 to something which is partly intended to save money. It would be great if Alfatune could find an agent over here. Perhaps Johnny Cargo would take this on when he gets set up!

Just a suggestion,as coming accross to England will add a lot to your costs, how many of you guys are prepared to travel to Dublin?
If enough of you decide to do it then something could be arranged.

Any word on a map for the 1750? Specifically the Giulietta?
