Immobiliser Problem

Hi,I have an immobiliser problem on my 2004 Gt.Does anyone know anyone(apart from dealer)who may be able to diagnose it/sort it out?

Car wont start.Immobiliser symbol comes up on dash.Will start after trying maybe 100 turns!.Has been getting gradually worse over last couple of weeks.My mechanic reckons its key related?

Had this on a 156 and it was the antenna within the ignition barrel. It was replaced under warranty at the time but I was led to believe it was a relatively inexpensive repair.
