yes, i won't bum meatloaf

i'm quite protective over mango's actually, they've always delivered top notch service for me so it's only right and fair that they get some credit where it's due especially after some of the bad press they get on here from time to time

Fair enough Al but it always pays to shop around. Last time ES Jones came up tops for me this time it is Mangos and I have been very pleased with them

With your reputation, they won't let you near the receptionist in the first place.

How thirsty is it dpat?

I'm seriously considering the 2.4 over the 1.9 mainly because (a) the alleged weight of the 159 (b) it is supposed to sound good for a diesel and (c) I want as much power as I can get!

It sounds

Average mpg (I have an Excel spreadsheet and all ) full-to-empty measurements - 31.6 mpg from a tank of diesel - about 440 miles per tank. Lots of torque - I am so sad at leaving my 2.4 but the fuel figures depress me , the new road tax charges dpress me , I don't need an SW anymore (they look so )

The 1.9 should in theory give me high 30's, low 40's mpg, lower tax, cheaper insurance, slightly less in servicing costs and............................................... ..................................

an AutoDelta remap can be had from Mangoletsi (in the future, if I WANT it

Isn't science fun?!?! Eye think so!

Re: Mangoletsi

dpat - that would be a roughly 25% reduction in economy for me . And it just cost me £70.26 to refill this afternoon.

I get a tad over 40 using the same measures as you.

Car tax was the other concern. I've not gone into fine details but from a quick scan it looks like I'd have to stump up an extra £80-£100/month over the models recommended by our company for the priviledge of driving a 2.4Ti.

HHmmm.

Re: Mangoletsi

There's no doubt about it, fuel econonmy is not a strong point of the 2.4 159. I am averaging 35-36 on a combined cycle, 38 on a long run at 75mph (my old 156 2.4 20V MJET used to do 42-45)

That said, the 5-pot does make a hell of a nice sound and the car is as solid as a rock and a million miles ahead of the 156/GT and other older generation Alfas (which I love).

IMHO life's too short to worry about fuel prices - stick some BP Ulimate or VPower diesel in it and enjoy!

Re: Mangoletsi

Too late - it has gone and been replaced with a 1.9 JTDm. TBH I am very surprised and happy with the 1.9. Sure it doesn't growl at me but power delivery wise it is very smooth and faster than I thought.

I wanted to add some positive comments about Mangoletsi. Kevan Dingle the chap that I dealt with from the start of selling my car was helpful, informative, polite, patient, always available to talk over a concern and generally a good person to do business with. Thank you Kev and enjoy your few days off and I'll speak to you when you get back on Monday

Mangoletsi's has changed a great deal since I first bought my 147 and then a 156 from them. Looking back at that time I was relatively new at buying cars and I should have haggled more and gone elsewhere to look. However I will say the attitude back then was get the car sold and if on finance so much the better.

My experience this time was so much better. I went in looking to downsize my car and I achieved this at minimal cost to me and left feeling positive about the experience and about Mangoletsi. I was offered a great price on my car and have gone up a year to a car with less mileage and Blue&Me which I didn't have before. The 'new' car was serviced, cleaned and totally immaculate inside and out

Firstly the new showroom and facilities are great and give a great first impression - congrats to Mangos. - it looks the part. All your staff were friendly and courteous and I was always offered coffee and a place to sit. Kevan as I said was happy to chat to me about Alfa Romeo in general and about my specifics. When I mentioned I had test driven a seat Leon FR he did not go through what you might expect a 'typical' car salesman to do - i.e. slag off the car - he simply asked what I thought of the car and whether there was anything else he could do for me in trying to keep me in an Alfa. That was when I decided to test drive a 1.9 JTDm 159 as Mangos had some ex-ARUK stock arriving. I am glad I did

On hand over yesterday once again Kevan was attentive and informative and went through all the paper work and explained everything to me and my wife. I then inspected the car while he insected mine and I came back and reported that while the 'new' 159 was fine there was a scuff to one of the alloys. Kevan had a looked and without me prompting him offered to change the wheel for me. This he did I signed off on the car and went back out to it to discover that he had had the front left changed and not the rear left - he had seen a tiny kerb mark on the front left and thought this was the wheel I meant. He hadn't seen the mark on the rear left! TBH it isn't a huge scuff but it is there. By this time all the mechanics were off home but I have been promised that if I go bcak Saturday morning I can once again have the wheel swopped from another car to replce my scuffed one. I will be done at Mangoletsi on Saturday morning

A big thank you to Kevan and all at Mangoletsi and best wishes to you all for the future - I hope to be back in approx 3 years for another Alfa

Glad your experience was so much better than mine. Your right the showroom an facilities are much improved since the revamp.

Forecourt was full of cars - lots of pick up this week I think The only issue I can see for Mangoletsi is parking - there are more spaces than before but still not enough. I don't know if they have any plans for more spaces?

Re: Mangoletsi

Just had a very pleasant couple of hours at Mangos this morning. I reckon it is one of the most relaxing and welcoming car showrooms I've ever been in.

Big thanks to Kevan for fixing me up with a back-to-back test of GT and 159.

Loved the GT, keen to try a Q2 as I'm sure it would be even more fun from what I've read on AO. 159 was a bit underwhelming to be brutally honest, dirty interior and squeaking clutch (on 12.8k miler) notwithstanding- needed more power and firmer suspension but I'm sure it is ideal for motorways and typical fleet buyers so I ain't really knocking it.

Hopefully, I'll get to try a Ti. I have doubts about the running costs of the 2.4 now. I would probably have taken a punt on the Ti if it has to be 159 over GT but now I've driven a stock Lusso I don't think I would without trying it. Newer models tone down that centre console too I believe- far too shiney for my tastes.

Saw Wainey there, waved hello but he was deep in serious looking discussions with a technician - I do hope that warp speed run on the M6 didn't do any harm to his beautuiful blue Brera.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Under the hood, you and me are the same (Lightning McQueen)
