Problem with girlfriends GTV...

We got a new battery fitted in March. However, we still have a problem where it will start some days and not on others e.g. it sat from Thurs night until Mon morning and started first time but then wouldn't start on Tues afternoon.

Would this be an issue with the alternator as opposed to a starter motor problem?

Any ideas approx. cost to get it fixed and where we would be best taking it?

Will need a bit more info, when you say its not starting, is it turning over and not firing, Is the Key light going out for the immobilizer? OR is it not turning over at all?

Twinspark? Could be the Crank sensor?

I'll get her to note what lights are showing next time. I believe it will turn over a couple of times then nothing, as if there is charge there initially. It's been fine for the last week. About a month ago I had it to work, left work and drove for 5 mins to pick up my daughter, got back in the car after 10 mins and nothing the first twice I turned the key then it started! There was a new battery fitted 2 months ago as we thought it was that.

I'll report back shortly.

All Alfa's

Kevbhoy,

Sounds like it could be a crankshaft position sensor ( don't quoate me on that as we have not seen the car to diagnose. ) But if you get a local garage to see where the fault lies, give us a call & we'l give you your Alfa Owner discount if you purchase from us here in Perth

Cheers,

Malky

If its not turning over could be a bad connection on battery / or a bad earth.
If it is turning over and not firing --
1) If the key light (on dash) is staying on, could be a bad connection on steering column for immobilizer. (try letting of adjuster lever and shaking steering wheel.
2) If the key light goes out, could be the Crank Sensor as suggested above.

On other cars I've had, when the crank sensor has gone, it hasn't put on any lights or thrown up any codes for the diagnostics to pick up on??
