Cam belt change - aberdeen garage
Just thought i'd bring this up here too..
See this thread for details
http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...l-chuffed.html (Well chuffed..!)
You can either supply parts yourself or get them to source but I found it a little cheaper getting myself.
Pretty decent and knowledgable servicing..

Re: Cam belt change - aberdeen garage
Hey I'm still here to do belts for another month you know, you source the parts Alfa Romeo Parts and Alfa Romeo Spares from EB Spares - Specialist Alfa Parts Dealers are best, and I'll fit them for £50 labour, any 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 TS or JTS (sorry no 105 BHP 147s), I'm in Lossiemouth and it's a nice drive up and the jobs only 2 hours.

Ask to speak with Dave Park, he will fill you in on his previous experience. He has worked on many types not just Alfa's. For something like a cam belt change and other general servicing and MOT I would say they are more than enough, for something like engine fault diagnosis (i.e getting computer hooked up and checking things) out I'm not so sure. In that case you may be better with kirkhill I understand they have the gear for it. You would have to ask him what he could do though he may be able to do that too. Around the corner from him are AWAutotec who can definately do that kind of fault diagnosis.
As far as my cam belt change the engine is running smooth as it ever was, if not better. Nice the variator got renewed too, so no diesely noise.
To err is human, but you need an Alfa to really screw things up!
The road to heaven is paved with old Alfa's.

Re: Cam belt change - aberdeen garage
When I was back in Aberdeen for the summer I was surprised at the lack of Alfas in Aberdeen area - I guess not having a dealer close doesnt help
When I lived near Aberdeen I used to take my Sprint to a guy in Blackburn and then he moved further out near Huntly I think. He had the only rolling road in the area so was good for setting up the twin carbs and getting a power run
But that was a good few years ago now

Re: Cam belt change - aberdeen garage
Meant to reply a couple of weeks back about this. I was having squeeky brake troubles which turned into grinding brake troubles and right enough when I had a look for myself the top side of the pads was totally worn. Took it to Dave at Amnycada and he was v helpful. As soon as I mentioned that he was recommended by a guy with a Spider he was like "oh yes, Michael" (I think that's your name anyway) and he told me my cheapest option would be to source the pads myself and he would fit them.
Off I went and ordered the pads and he got me in immediately and fitted them. Very good service and I'll be back there for all non-specialist jobs I think. Thanks.

Re: Cam belt change - aberdeen garage
Alright guys - thought I'd just add this info to this thread.
West High Street garage in Inverurie quoted me £295 parts & labour to do cam belt, aux belt, all tensioners.
This didn't include changing the variator and I couldn't vouch for their alfa knowledge but just thought I'd share the price.

Is that £295 all in for all parts and fitting?

Yup - all in. Like I said, that didn't include changing the variator and I don't know what their alfa experience is like.

Re: Cam belt change - aberdeen garage
CP garage quoted me £315 for parts and labour on a belt change. Variator another £90. They have good rep and plenty alfa experience.
I am planning making the trip to Dundee to use them.

For my 2003 52 plate 156 JTS if I buy the cam belt kit (1XC/BELT,1XB/BELT,3XTENS OE ALFA) and variator from Alternative autos and have Amnycada fit them I've been quoted £347 all in. I'm a happy bunny!!

Definitely give Amnycada a go for my next change. Assuming I still have a car that is, Kirkhill have had it for a week and their phones seem to be down...

They failed miserably to diagnose my MCSF, they just kept replacing throttle pedals and throttle bodies when all I had wrong was a loose electrical connector.
And servicing prices are a joke too, I was about £600 for a regular service.
One time they came to my work and dropped off their courtesy car and took mine away, it wasn't until I returned it to pick mine up that I was informed (via a sign above their counter) that I should have insured the car myself, so I'd been driving around for a week uninsured!
They've had more than a grand off me and in the end I sorted it myself with the help of this forum and a £25 diagnostic machine from Amazon.
