Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

Apologies but I am new to the world of Alfa. I have just bought an 02 Plate 147 and have a slight problem with the gear linkage I would like looked at.

Are their any recommended garages in Aberdeen who are happy to deal with alfas, I always took my old car (Peugeot 206) to J Cooper & Son just off George Street.

I love this car after only 1 day so just want to make sure I get it serviced etc by the right people.

I also need a spare key - they seem to cost a bomb going by the numerous threads on this forum!

Cheers

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

Hi mate, I think Arnold Clark on Whitemyres Place still do Alfa Servicing. I know that they only sell Fiat and not Alfa anymore but pretty sure they still do the servicing.

I've just picked up myself a lovely 53 plate 147 2.0 Selespeed Lusso. It's awesome!

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

Last time my car was in for a service Arnold Clark didn't all the things they had ticked off on the list as being done so I took mine to Kirkhill Autos (out near the airport) for its MOT and a couple of bits of work and was pretty impressed with the price

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

I have used Kirkhill for all the main alfa servicing on my GTV. they are good particularly on the electrical side.
there is also C P Garage services, Unit 3, Baluniefield Industrial Estate, Dundee Tel 01382 731479. have a great rep if you can get to Dundee

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

Cheers for the suggestions, both sound good. I reckon Kirkhill would be better value for money than an Arnold Clark (although for a new key I guess it would have to be Arnold Clark?).

Am I best to take it to a garage that specialises in Alfas or can any garage comfortably deal with them?

I am totally clueless as to whether they are just as easy to service as the likes of fords/peugeots etc.

Thanks

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

if you've got a selespeed like me I'd stick with a specialist alfa company!

Although, if it's a simple mechanical or wear and tear thing, any decent garage should do. But if it's anything electrical or to do with the on board computer, I wouldn't take it anywhere other than an official place.

P.S has anyone used the alfa dealer in perth for anything?

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

If you trust your local garage and you require the basic oil change then i would say for convenience stick with that, however i am sure once you get familiar with the huge amount of useful info on AO site, then you will realise that there is times that specialist advice is required.

Plenty of the guys on hear will keep you right, but you have done the most important part of being an Alfa owner, joined AO

Dont let the rumours of Selespeeds issues and faults put you off,if you have a reliable source of info and specialist experience, which you do in the N/E scotland area, then its only the g/box that makes them different!

Cheers for the info.

So who are the specialists in Aberdeen. And where are they?

And are there any dealers? Is the Arnold Clark up Lang Stracht the closest we have to a dealer in Aberdeen?

It's not the Selespeed I have, it's the Lusso so I shouldn't have any complex gear box issues. Hopefully!

Edit: Unfortunatley it's on 44k and never had the Cambelt changed so I am needing to get this done. Is this a specialist thing or is it easy for any competent garage to do?

Sorry for all the questions, I must sound like a right Alfa noob!

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

Arnold Clark is the only Dealer in Aberdeen,i dont think much of their service standards, but thats my opinion.

Kirkhill Auto's @kirkhill nr a/p will do the timimg belt and any other specialist work at reasonable rates, ask for George (manager)he will keep you right.

Get that timing belt done asap, there are lots of horror stories on here to convince you that is THE most important factor of owning an Alfa!

Personally i wouldnt drive it until it's done, should have been done at service @36k but most get them done earlier for piece of mind.

Hope you have been saving up the pennies as its not cheap.

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

Arnold Clark are no longer Alfa dealers. They can still get parts I think. The nearest dealer is Western in Perth.

Kirkhill is probably best in Aberdeen for do the belts. The are aware of all the extras that are advisable to do at the same time.

I tend to use Lochside (Parkhill) for general work.

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

I heard that AC were not selling cars but garage services and parts are still on the go,so there not a franchised dealer anymore?

Just booked my car in to Kirkhill to get the belts done. £500 plus VAT!! OUCH! Is that a fair price? I knew it'd be expensive but wasn't expecting that much. That includes everything though such as tensioners, variator etc

10 days to go before I can stop worrying about the belt giving up.

EDIT: Ok, so out of interest I phoned around to check out prices. Tried C P in Dundee as mentioned above - £510

Then to get a comparison I phoned up Arnold Clark in Aberdeen. £350! That is for the Cambelt Kit including Tensioners. I will need to phone back though and double check. Was just a woman who does the bookings on the phone but she seemed to think everything required was included.

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

Well if the 2 independant quote the same price, then it does make you wonder why AC are much cheaper!

Put it this way,Kirkhill get there original alfa items from AC,Kirkhill charge much less as a hourly rate than AC,so i would question how they can be 150 cheaper

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

Nah thats pricey for an independent, Mclennans in Edinburgh are 100% Alfa and much less, I got belts, variator, a service and laser alignment done for less than that

That was 18months ago and included pick up from the house

Re: Alfa Servicing in Aberdeen

If your interested, I'll do it for a very reasonable sum, looking at £50 if you supply the parts which would come to ~£300 tops (3 x belts, 3 x tensioners, variator, engine flush, oil and filter, I'm in Elgin and this is only an hour and a half drive for you, we do have a great beach here just the other side of the golf course, unless you want to learn soemething about your engine and get your hands dirty too. Sorry no courtesy car available.
