Only had the car a week and its winding me up!

car broke down on saturday, had to jump start the car which worked a couple of times, drove it to Kwik fit, the guy there said everything was fine including the battery, tried to show him the clicking sound i was getting when turning on the ignition and the car started up fine with no problems!!On family day out on sunday, car broke down called AA out, guy said it was the alternator and the voltage is dropping when trying to charge battery, does anyone know anyone in the area that can fit this, as already had car to Alfa garage a week ago to fix a gear selector cable and they charged me a fortune.

Wouldn't expect the AA to misdiagnose but just to be on the safe side, check that the battery connections are tight - ie, they don't rotate on the battery. Mine was slightly loose once and caused intermittent lack of juice - sometimes just a click from the starter.

I agree with PR - take it back to the seller, especially if it was a garage. If that fails then changing an alternator requires no technical skill (assuming its physically accessible) - couple of bolts and an electrical connector. Any garage will be ok.
