How much would one expect to spend on having a new variator and cam belt fitted in the North East?
Where is the best place to get this done?

1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 ?

2.0 will need balance belt etc done too which will push cost up

Also are you planning on doing waterpump too ?

+ approximately £30. Worth doing as the belts have to come off to get to it.

I had the belts, tensioners, variator, water pump and spark plugs changed on my 2.0 JTS at QST 2 months ago.

The thick end of £500!!

Belts & Tensioners = £340
Variator + £100
Water Pump = £30
+ Spark Plugs.

The 2 litre JTS does, yes.

Mine is on it's third.

Mine is due have a TS and the good 'ol diesel sound has started

You can buy the Variator straight from Alternative Autos for about £80 + postage, but Ros is right, fitting is a big job and will cost a few hours work. BTW, all it will do is make the car sound terrible, it doesn't actually break anything that I've ever heard.

i have heard that too frank. i was told that it will be slightly down on power and fuel consumption increases slighty too.

I got a diagnostic run on the car the same week I got it back from having the Variator done, so, it's difficult to confirm the power isse (The diagnostick corrected a valve power issue).
