Help Driving from Doncaster to Rochdale ....

... so my northern Alfisti, if you had to drive across the Pennines from Doncaster to Middleton near Rochdale, what way would you go???

Multimap suggests either the M1, M62 or another route which takes the A635, A628 and A627 for the majority of the journey.

Or is there a better route for me and my 156 to have fun!!

M62 loads and loads of roadworks. 50 limits for mile upon fcuking mind numbing mile. Still probably the quickest and easiest route though.

A628 Woodhead. Traffic choked if during the week. Take a book to pass the long hours queuing at Tintwistle/Mottram.

A635 Isle of Skye over the Pennines is a lovely twisty, quiet road for 'fun'.

I'm with Quadrifoglio on this one. Avoid Woodhead during the daytime - you'll be lucky to get up to 35mph!

Isle of Skye is your best bet; A57 Snake Pass may be worth considering, but traffic may be a problem.

NE starts at Watford for me (Yes, I know it's an old joke!)

Looks like I'm in for a fun day then ... roadworks on M1 (50mph and have been since I've been driving up to Doncaster on business ... Dec 2008!), M62, and probably M6, M42, M40 ...

and if the cones aren't up for that, you can bet somebody will have a prang somewhere on that lot

Note to self: ask the boss for a company helicopter!
