Lyles Newcastle
Whats the deal with this garage on the West Road? I live less than a mile away but am not sure what they do really. I thought of them when i was getting the MiTo but they dont appear to sell new cars. Are they mainly into used sales and servicing? What have peoples dealings with them been like in the past?

Re: Lyles Newcastle
I used them when I had my first 156 about 5 years ago. I had a timing belt failure and took it there to get sorted. Cost £1900 for a top end rebuild but most of that was covered by the warranty. Shortly after that the variator went, so they obviously didn't think to advise me to get that done while doing all the other stuff .
Also about a year ago I had a Laguna and was on the lookout for another 156 and went to look at one at Lyles. The salesman couldn't give me a price for trading in the Laguna straight away so said he would get back to me. Suffice to say I heard nothing back so a few weeks later ended up going to Mango's to buy my present car (and spending an extra 2.5 K)
At one time they were the only alternative to Benfield in this area but they're not much cheaper than main dealer prices really.

Re: Lyles Newcastle
They were Alfa franchised in the past but independent since it went to Benfield. Importing new Alfas from Eire used to be their thing but seem to be just used cars now(no doubt Alfa UK got a bit peeved by their low prices). They've got loads of Alfa experience & used to be a no-brainer when the "competition" was Benfield at Railway St. Probably still cheaper but prices have risen & people are saying nice things about the "new" Benfield (couldn't have got any worse mind ...). They've looked after my GTV over the years but mostly cos I didn't want to go near Benfield & a warranty picked up most of the bills. Now I've moved to Hexham, got a decent local garage & don't feel the need to go back ...

Re: Lyles Newcastle
I used them for a service at the back end of last year end got really good service from them, about 20% cheaper than benfield were and a fair bit closer to where i live, so i went with them.
Have read a thread on here which didn't have such a good experience tho, kneivel77 (sp) i think it was
Btw if you live in the west end of the toon i may have seen you the other night at the lights at the end of west denton way, i was in a black 159 going right onto west denton way and recall seeing a black Mito at the lights but was busy chatting to my daughter at the time so was slightly switched off

Re: Lyles Newcastle
Ian the service manager there lives and breathes Alfa,s but they are not cheap.
But they are cheaper than Alfa dealers.
I have taken my cars there for 5 years and its over 30 miles away from me, I mostly use them for items you want done with a guarantee IE cam belt change and stuff.
All things Alfa in Thornaby will probs do my next service.

Its possible that it was me. Is West Denton Way the road from McDonalds/Blockies? Ive only seen one red courtesy car on the road, oh and i seen 1 black Veloce on the central motorway but it was Jonathan from benfield on a testdrive.
I live in Denton Burn not far from the Denton pub. I'll keep an eye out for you mate!
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Re: Lyles Newcastle
i do know that they quoted me 100 quid more for my cam belt change than alfa tech in whitley bay did...
Having said that alfa tech dont seem to get too good a rating either, but i think the newton aycliffe one (that everyone raves about) seems a bit of a hike
