fellow NE ner in need of help!!

Good morning everyone!

My name is Paul, but most people call me Loz.
I live in Redcar, NE.
I really need some help if you don't mind??

I have just bought (and pick up next week) a 147 51' plate 2.0l Lusso.
I found it via Piston heads and its was listed as a bargain 147, priced at 2000 pounds. this I thought was far too cheap?!?!

I have done some looking and found the same car (and seller) on ebay and managed to secure the car for 1800 pounds.

The car had history up to 60k mls, after that the owner has had it serviced locally by a friend.
No tax
11 months MOT

I have ran the car through HPI and all is clear.
Owner seems genuine on the phone too.

So im thinking......either deal of the year or lemon of the year??

anyones thoughts would be welcome as Im a complete newbie to Alfas (but very handy on the tools in the garage )

Thanks in advance

Loz

Seems like a good price. And you've obviously done a bit of digging into the car's history.

I think the bottom line is that you are going into it with your eyes open and if any problems crop up (and hopefully they won't) you have the skills to sort them yourself.

I used to have a 147 2.0l Lusso and it's a cracking car.

Enjoy it and good luck.

Check the cambelt & tensioners have been done & don;t take their word for it, if they haven't got the invoice for it then it hasn't been done (I learnt the hard way).

If it hasn't been done, the price is OK to get it done & make it worthwhile still getting.

Check ALL the electrics incliding indicators, dodgy functioning means dead body computer, another pricey fix that I've had to do.

There's a decent 147 buying guide here; Alfa Romeo 147 Buyer's Guide

hello loz, what mr T and bri said really. Cambelts defo a must for peace of mind if u have no evidence of it being carried out. also, have a look out for any knocks on the suspension.
i dont mind casting an eye over it when u get it if u want like cos im only up the road in saltburn. 2 heads are better than 1.

:-)

Hi lads!
Cheers for the info, the guy reckons that he works for Jaguar and he changed all the filters, aux belts and timing belt last year 12000mls ago.
I mentioned the Variator and he didn't seem to know what I was talking about.
As mentioned, the car has FSH up to 60K and now has 97K on the clock, owner is very helpful and is willing to send pics and info whenevr I ask for it. (i'm stuck offshore at work at mo!!)

What should I be looking for when I go see the car??

At present Im thinking....

Cambelt
Suspension
Flashing odometer
electrics

etc etc.....

Bacon..........I'll take you up on that offer mate, many thanks!

Is there anywhere in the NE that can do belts/repairs/parts for good prices local??

Thanks in advance

Loz

got a few options round here for servicing, but easily the best place to go (if u dont mind travelling) is BMC in Newton Aycliffe. Couple of places in stockton too but not as good as BMC.
