BEWARE!! New Speed Limit for Speed Camera on the A66 at Long Newton

There have been some new, temporary 50 mph signs put up a couple of hundred yards in front of the speed camera on the A66 westbound carriageway at Long Newton.

Therefore the speed limit through the camera and the road works just afterwards is now 50 mph.

Don’t ask me how I know. :nothappy:

I'll add a little warning of my own actually (maybe we can make this a speed camera etc watch thread), there's been traffic cops sat on the A689 & A179 bridge over the A19 every day so far this week so watch .out

Re: BEWARE!! New Speed Limit for Speed Camera on the A66 at Long Newton

I seen that camera flash a coach behind me the other day. I think it was the coach anyway and not me (I hope). I'm pretty sure the 50 signs (before the camera) werent there then, but then i did think it was odd that it was flashing cos the coach didnt look to be speeding. Hmmmm, I hope I havnt been got there. I was easily past the markings on the road tho, so i should be ok. Ive just remembered when it was anyway, it was about 10am on sunday..... on me way to Burtree/Penrith. Hahahaha!!!

Thanks for the headsup. To be honest I never can remember the speedlimit at that camera so always drop to under 50 just to be on the safe side. Judging by the amount of skid marks on the road before that camera I don't think its doing any good at all

Re: BEWARE!! New Speed Limit for Speed Camera on the A66 at Long Newton

while we are on the subject of speed enforcement....As a petrolhead, I feel kind of lucky, in a way, to live round here. Generally, my sort of area and the north east in general as far as i am aware, havent got the sheer amount of speed cameras and enforcement as other parts of the country. This is why I feel lucky, in a way. Added to that, is the fact that I have the roads of the north york moors on my doorstep, the A174 (which i own by the way, haha), the A19 (which aint exactly a camera hotspot) and the moors and dales over the tees/wear valley way past durham to tear around in. Life is good. I know i'm a bit obsessive and silly with cars in general, but the way I look at it is that in the not too distant future, we are gonna be hounded/taxed/monitored/priced off the road and not be able to enjoy the freedom that we enjoy now.
So CHEERS lads, i'm off for a blast!!

As far as im aware there are NO speed cameras in county durham at all. The chief constable doesnt actually believe they reduce road accidents and therefore wont agree to them. Hopefully he's only about 12 years old and will be in the job for the next 40 years

Durham doesn't use fixed cameras but does use mobile ones IIRC...

and also IIRC Hampshire's CC doesn't see the point of speed cameras either !!

I'm pretty sure that's a C.I.D. car, was it a 535d by any chance? I saw two new grey 535d's parked up by the bridge over the little river in Newton Aycliffe when they were investigating a body found down there
