147 Foglights on strike

Hi all,

Noticed this morning as I left home for work in my 2002 147 that my nearside dipped headlamp beam wasn't working. No warning on the display, which was too busy telling me that there could possibly be ice on the road  .

Lots of foggy stuff this morning so on with the front and rear fog lights. WTF - no front fogs at all :( . And still no warning on the display.

Is the front fog light operation dependant on both dipped beams being operational, does anyone know? And shouldn't the display be warning of non-working bulbs? It certainly has warned me about them in the past (when there was nothing wrong with them  )

Finally, is it a b@gger to change the headlamp bulb as I suspect?

My headlight bulb blew and I also had no warnings. But I was able to operate fog lights while it was bust.

Changing the bulb was pretty easy. can't remember the procedure exactly but I think that there were a few clips, that were reasonable accessible, holding a bulb holder in place. Take a peek under the bonnet and it should all make sense.

Just remember not to touch the glass of the new halogen bulb with your fingers. I was told that the grease from your fingres will kill it in no time.

Cheers guys:)

Looking forward (not!) to a visit to Halfrauds at lunchtime today to buy a new bulb. It's not a high intensity one so far as I know, so hopefully my credit card should be able to stand the strain!

I'll put the company nurse on standby to dress the skinned knuckles, but I'll have to wipe the blood off the car myself :)

Wonder why the front fogs have stopped working? Interior foglamp indicator is OK.

Update:

I've just replaced the dip beam bulb (note to self, get some spares from Shop4parts £3.10 +VAT against £8.99 from Halfrauds:wow: ).

Regarding the actual fitting (skinned knuckles etc) I'm glad to say that I've found the nack! View the back of the headlamp unit from the centre of the car and not from the wing side. You can see both the clip notches then. Also remember they both notch the same way, so bend the clip upwards, fit it under the top notch (from top to bottom as it were) then under the bottom notch et voila!

Not so smug about the foglamps tho:eek: They work fine, I was just, errr, looking in the wrong place   I was looking at the lower portion of the indicator lens. :cheese:
