I am after a spare key for my 156 v reg (1999), when I bought the car it only came with one key. As I understand it I don't need the master key to have spares cut like with my 146, but I have read in other posts that I may need codes to make it all work.

I have a red key with one button to lock/alarm unlock/disabale alarm and if possible I want one that works with all the same functionality.

it seems the most people have had to go to a dealer to get this done and it can cost anywhere between £75 and £175 to get this sorted which seems quite a lot to me.

what I was hopping was that there are other places that this can be done, I saw a post with a mention to somwhere in warrington near Ikea that might be able to do it but no link.

as far a I can make out I need a key, the blade of the key being cut with the right profile then the code from alfa to program the key to the car, then the alarm button functionality configured to the car.

is it possible to go anywhere else to have a spare cut that has all the functionality or does it have to be an alfa dealer?

thanks

J

You need to use the Examiner system to get a new key onto the car, which only an Alfa/Fiat main dealer or specialist will have.

Your simplest route will be to just order it from a main dealer parts dept, you will need them to get the code card anyway.

enquired today and my local dealer quoted me about £165 including the VAT, A bit more pricey than I thought. £85 for the key itself, £40 for the labour of setting it up to the cars code and £10 to get the code to do the job then VAT on top of that . surely ther is a cheaper way!?

I know, just haven't decided what to do about it yet. It's booked in for cambelts in jan, then I need to do the lower wishbones and maybe the shocks too. Also the Airbag ecu is pooped.

So it's costing me a pretty penny at the moment and I can't really afford another £165 for a spare key.

thanks for the reply, looks like I will have to go to a dealer then.

Anybody around manchester know of any fiat/alfa dealers that will do the job for a good price?
I've used Lythgoe at Rochdale...no longer dealers but Service Agents - and have treated me OK for this sort of work - I deal in Alfas and have had to get spare keys on a few occasions.
