My car has always clunked a little at the rear passenger side when I turn left on rough surfaces. Recently it seems to be getting worse. I thought it might be the exhaust bouncing up and hitting something, but it seems pretty secure.
BW does it clunk or crack over speedbumps as well???????
If so it sounds like the rear axle bearing is shot eek! Just done mine and what came out was shocking Virtually nothing left of the bearing on one side
Mine makes a funny kind of metallic crack sometimes when i go over speed humps, does this sound like the axle bearing you mentioned? It had an Mot last month and passed with flying colours, but has been doin it for months? Does it cost much to sort it out?
not really no, very occassionally it does, but it's usually only when I turn left. Is there a way to check if it's the axle bearing? The sound is sort of a hollow sounding clunk, like what you might get if you dropped a plastic tube on the ground if that makes any sense probably not
I've got the same noise..and mine was MOT'd 3 weeks ago..
Wishbone is less than a year and a half old, so I don't think its that..took the wheel off for a look last weekend. The antiroll bar bushes were a bit tight so I took em off and refitted them, no improvement whatsoever...I'm beginning to think it could be the steering rack bushes? I've still to take the hub off and check the bottom ball joint and t rod end (was rushed last weekend)..
I did get an advisory from the MOT on a t rod end?
Could it be this rather than the lower ball joint?
dunc, do you get your clunk when
turning wheel left and right, and also
when going over bumps etc.
Reason i ask is mine does the same
and its cause my strut bearings
are fecked,might be worth jacking
yours up and checking these.
I'll try and have a look this weekend. Clunk is definately present on bumps.I hardly drive the car though so I'm dependent on my wife accurately reporting the symptoms..
Thanks for the suggestion..
