It seems to me the oil in my car runs a bit hot without any appearant reason, the oil level is okay, when I drive for 15 mins at 100 kph it comes up to 70-80° I never noticed it before so I'm not sure if this is normal.
I queried the same thing with my local dealer the other day. After a rather prolonged fast run down to London a while ago the oil temperature shot up and worried me. The speed was a lot more than 100kph wink
The technician reckons its ok as the oil gauge rarely registers under normal use. He said temperatures up to 90 degrees were ok???
Dunno, I would still be worried about unusual rises in temp. Just keep your eye on it eek!
On the last track day my oil temp went up to about 120 degrees Celsius. No problems, was and still is 100%. The engine used no oil and made no smoke. Used full synthetic Shell Helix Ultra though. I get the impression of an engine that can take a LOT of hammering with no ill effects, a worthy successor to the older aluminium engine.
An air-to-oil Oil Cooler is on the shopping list though.
Chris, mine is the TS 16V 2L. It has only a small water-to-oil cooler between the engine block and the oil filter. Not the most effective oil cooler i.m.h.o. , but at least very compact.
The older 8V models like yours have a proper oil radiator (air-to-oil cooler) which should in theory be a bit more effective, provided it gets enough airflow and the contact area of the cores are large enough.
Kind regards
Jacques
