i know this most likely is a complete contradiction of terms BUT does anyone know of any companies that do quiet performance exhaust systems?

reason being is in the new year im changing work hours and will be regularly starting work at midnight or finishing at 11.40pm... im already getting complaints about the noise my car makes starting her up at 6.30am for work...

i dont want to have to lose power if i can so im wondering what options i have. could i fit the likes of a GTA system to my 2.1TS to keep the noise down but performance up?

help?

local indi swears by them as better manufactured than razagon [sp?] as they always line up and fit perfectly and last. they are also marketed as performance exhaust but stock sound so should suit your needs a treat just not the cheapest pipe available.

Try a Powerflow custom made exhaust, you can spec any noise level, any look and get a good, well fitted system. Some powerflow firms are better than others, look for recomendations. I've had two cars with them, one brilliant, and one utter pants!

Do the research, ask to see examples, you will get exactly what you want then.

andy, ive got a powerflow system on at the moment which i specified to be as quiet as possible, they informed me they had used the largest back box they could fit in the small space on the 147 as well as a large center silencer... the things still rather loud although i must admit i love the sound myself.

Supersprints are extremely well made and long-lasting - they are also a delight to "break in" - when you first put on a new one there seems to be almost no difference in the sound at all, but over the course of the next 500-1000km as the muffler burns-in the sound gets subtly better day by day.

I like the sound of my GTA with the Asso carbon intake so much that I haven't yet gotten around to changing the muffler, but I've fitted Supersprints to a BMW 325, a 328 and an M3 - in each case I thought Superprint did a superb job of enhancing the best sounding characteristics of the BMW straight six (especially at high rpms where my M3 had a spine-tinglingly good sound), without adding any harsh or overly loud sounds whatsoever.

On this forum I have read similar comments about their treatment of Alfas (I think they are an Italian company so this would make sense). It is a purchase you definitely won't regret :D

Well ive got a REMUS ss,sounds nice and subtly deep at tick-over and quite quiet, its only when you get to about 3-4000rpm it starts to make babys cry in their prams!!hehehe

Remus produce one of the largest ranges of sport exhausts worldwide and all are extensively rolling road dyno developed to give excellent power increases, using experience from their involvement in WRC, Touring Cars and many other forms of Motorsport.

Utilising their specially designed acoustic room and computer controlled sound testing equipment, Remus sound engineer their products so that the exhaust note will be deeper and more aggressive from the outside the car, but without being annoying inside.

Manufactured entirely from stainless steel, the range is offered with numerous innovative tail pipe options

Yes they are Italian company. About their treatment of Alfas I think the best example is when I was there few years ago, they had Alfa GT on the ramp making exaust for it before GT was officialy launched in Italy.

You could always get Larini to build one to your spec.

Come to that, Hayward and Scott are tops too.
Sports cat for my 156 quoted approx £500
Cat back quoted at £600

All top quality SS.

Waiting for bonus in March to decide what I can afford.

the annoying thing is I really don't mind the sound, if anything I really like how my car sounds, those who have herd it will probably agree its got a very nice growl to it!

the night shift patterns I will be doing in the new year tho mean very unsociable hours so I'm being forced to go quieter!

I've been looking at the supersprint exhausts, so be it only the muffler so far, a twin 70mm exit muffler for the 147 is likely to set be back best part of 300 quid, is that about right?

is there any concerns with bumper clearance on such muffler? gta style.

also, would anyone know if the gta exhaus can be fitted to the twinnies? cat backover as obviously anything in front won't go!

cheers again

I have a CSC rear box on my 156. The 156 zorst is straight through from cat to rear box.

At idle the car has a quiet deep sound, not really any louder than the standard zorst, just a deeper tone. Give it welly though and it has a nice BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA raspy sound to it.

If you are after a quiet exhaust why not stick to a (cheaper) oem one, looking at the powerflow web site (I believe that is what you have fitted) the average power increase for all the exhausts tested was about 2.5%, this is about 5BHP on your engine, I've got a lawnmower with that amount of power and I don't think that strapping my qualcast to the back of the wifes 147 would make too much difference to the performance. Is it the fact that you may drop below the crucial 200bhp figure that means you need a "performance" exhaust? I say keep the neigbours happy and the teenagers in the corsas guessing as to what you have under the bonnet (which I have to say is pretty impressive).
