Problem:Rear bump stops detaching. I've lost both twice.
Weak bump stops can detach over undulating roads/potholes etc when they make contact with the spring pan. The bump stop effectively limits the travel of the wheel to stop the tyre from hitting the arch liner. The turret itself can become corroded so the bump stop cannot be held in place any longer or the actual bump stop can perish, the weakest point is the thinnest part where it fits into the turret.
Solution: I've fitted a different type of stop. It is made from rubber and dimensions are similar (see below). The main difference is that it has a stud manufactured into the stop which locates into the turret and is then locked into place by a nut. Simple stuff.
The V6 bump stops (yellow) and turret measure about 150mm. The twinny stops are black/metal and measure about 130mm incl the turret. The twinny stops are stronger, some people fit these instead of the V6 stops. My combination measures 135mm (see photos - one is from Clive).
Another way to keep the rear bump stops healthy - ensure the drain holes in the turret are kept clear to allow trapped water to escape.
