I'm hoping that someone can help, I'm sure me bella needs a new clutch in the next 1-2k miles as she slips a little now and again.
What I’d like to know is what is the general price for a replacement clutch as so far I’ve been quoted £670 inc parts, vat and labour however I’m sure I have read in a previous post that it cost about £500 for a replacement?
That was probably me; I've been quoted £732 by the local dealers or £500 by an Alfa specialist. On that basis I'd say £670 is a bit steep.

Can I ask who the specialist is? for that saving i would be happy to take a trip up the M5.

Hi Si,
It was these guys: WAD Alfa Romeo
I haven't been there myself yet but I understand from the forum that they are reputable. I'm not sure if their quote includes VAT mind you.

you could try alfa aid in maidenhead berks probably not too far a run. they have just replaced mine whilst the gearbox was replaced. the part was in the region of £150-£200 most of the cost is labour getting to the blighter. [this was a gtv t-spark however].very pleased with the work.cant give you a price for the clutch as part of the bill was under warranty etc.
Thanks for that Neil, I called in at their Digbeth branch (aka City Centre Clutches) on the way home today. They were very helpful and professional and the premises were fairly salubrious by Digbeth standards. They'll call me back with a quote on Monday.

friendly, helpful and honest service - I'm sure he'll sort any problems
car has been looked after - no greasy fingerprints inside or anything
clutch pedal action is much lighter and smoother than before
Bad points:
clutch engagement is juddery unless done really gently at low revs, perhaps I just need to get used to it but I hope it will improve with bedding in
oil level sensor is now faulty, presumably not reconnected on reassembling things - anyone know where this is? If I can find it, he'll fix it!
nasty death rattle under engine-braking and as the engine stops at ignition off - I can see two power steering pipes that aren't clipped in place so I think this will be an easy fix.
Due to the rattle, I haven't been out to see if the clutch slip has been cured.
It was bit of a nightmare to do apparently but he's happy to do another.

I was quoted by Autodelta the other day £750 quid for mine!
They are normally very competetive, but I am going to phone around as I think that price is some what higher than it perhaps should be. By the looks of your findings a dealer would ask that kind of money. Mine is obviously only a 1.9, so it should be a little cheaper than the 2.4.
When are you expecting to get the problems sorted? I think I can leave mine for a few more weeks and would be interested to know if he fixes the problems with no hassle.
Plus it's not just a trip out my door to them; I’ll have to think on it.

Thanks Neil, I've booked it for Monday for them to take a look at. The oil level sensor has sorted itself out and the juddering is getting better. However, I've managed to secure the power steering pipes that were loose but it's not affected the rattle. It sounds like pipes flapping around under the passenger footwell. I've also found a cable hanging free in the LH wheel arch, again no effect on the rattle.
I'm sure it's just an unsecured pipe and they were quite happy to investigate.
Fingers crossed,

I am !
The rattle got so bad that I took a look myself and found two bolts holding the exhaust mountings hadn't been re-tightened. Two minutes work has completely solved the problem. I also resolved a couple of other minor issues; the undertray wasn't fitted quite right and a cable was dangling in the left wheel arch (see attached image). Does anyone know what this is?!
I'll give the clutch place a call on Monday to cancel my appointment and let them know what the problems were.
Best of luck with your clutch replacements.

I'll be giveing them a bell soon as it soulds like they have done a good job. I think the trick will be to ask for a test drive before paying.
