Just got this one, 3.0 V6 with Koni's, unknown lowering springs, full tubular sports exhaust, LHD. Bought cheap for spares, but now looks to good so will do up.

Oh yeah you could defo get that done , in fact I think there is a new process that is cheaper that I saw on Jay Leno's Garage page thats alot cheaper.

Trouble is I want this on the road yesterday, and its a track day and warm day toy, never going to be a concours or show car just usable and fun. And I live in the middle of nowhere so anytime I can do a fix there and then rathee than send stuff off etc I will.

I was just about to ask the same question as Jim!

What colour indicator lense?! Orange or clear! Which side? Sure I have one about if you message me.

Looking good.

Lol, yes bands where off Jim!

Little update.

More light work.

Thanks to 75-Fan I got a new indicator.

I decided to strip both down and clean them up. Running a sharp knife blade along the joins over and over gently saw the lens seperate from housing.

In both the reflective planel was rotten, the new one way les so than the other.

I thought about fabbing new steel ones but I felt that they where likely to rot again at some point and that I could save myself alot of hammering. So I made these out fo fibreglass

Which I then covered in more ali tape.

Then resealed the units after giving lenses a good clean

So along with the headlights I have all refurbed front lighting that should work a hell of alot better and of course make the car look in better nick!

Not allot of progress recently

I did a little further investigating in the boot of the rot I found and on the drivers side it goes right back to the window, so I removed the rear window trim ready to take it out.

As anyone done this? It looks bonded to me so I plan to cut it out and rebond back in. There was always some bubbling around the screen so it will be good to sort it all once and for all.

I can do the repair properly until the window is out and can't take the window out until I know the weather is going to be good for a spell as the cars outside.

On the passenger side there was a small section of rot in the gutter so as I could get to this with the window in I cut it out ,fabbed a new bit and welded in, then high zinced ready for a skim of filler and paint.

Popped out to a small local show after with my little helper, no Alfa's, hope to resolve this next time!

Clearly not a TR fan!

The spell of better weather meant I was committed to doing something on the MGB Project, another reason for the slow in Alfa progress, so the shell came out and got a complete paint strip and zinc coat. Then the chrome bumper conversion was finished off. Needs filler primer and hours
of rubbing down now before the top coats.

The MX5 got chucked out garage where it is still awaiting hood repair

So you can see I have my hands full!

Nice work, and you have persuaded me to get my TS back on the road. Fortunately it does not require anything like as much work. I need to do the headlight repair though and never thought of sticking it in the oven and using aluminium tape, but what did you use to stick the lens back on ? I don't want to have the lens fall off when I go over one of the many potholes are local council don't fill in.

Just to let everyone know , I gave up and scrapped her!

Nope , I have done loads and yesterday got the paint flatted and polished and is looking sweet!!!

Really pleased with paint match considering the age of the old stuff and it having had a spray job at some time with an unknown colour.

I have loads to post so will try and get on it this evening, but I have been working long hours on it while we have this sunshine!

Here is a little taster, I am using rattle cans, and just laying on lots of coats and then flatting back allot, it was too hot really so paint went on dry but I have still got a good result I hope you agree!

This is from my crud covered 1.3mpx blackberry so it look better in the flesh

Cheers, was nearly done on the other side but after a guide coat, what looks perfectly smooth has a small dip so it needs a fine skim of filler. I nearly just went for it as I want it on the road, but I knew with glossy red paint it would catch my eye every time and Id wish I had sorted it properly

I've been putting this off for a while as I have a major back log of pics I have not posted as I have just been cracking on and getting on with it.

So last posts where re the boot and the lights.

The boot repair got serious as it ran right up to and including the rear window surround, so the rear window had to come out. Stanley knife and some pushing and it was out -

Sides of window frame needed work too

It seems most of this rot is due to hamfisted repairs done by whoever repsrayed it last.
So it all needed cutting out to ensure the rot is stopped! New metal shaped and welded in then coated in lots of rustbuster to ensure there is no surface rust.

Then used the non porous rustbuster primer I got round entire frame after cleaning it all up and then painted it ready to put screen back in

Screen in back in now I have not taken a pic yet, used a sealant adhesive and plenty of it to leave now gaps for water to sit in the screen again, and repainted the insert black to finish off nicely.

Been allot of rubbing down, filler priming , painting ,sanding back etc etc to finish off the rear light areas that had rotted away ,where I have let in new metal

As you can see the colour here is random , it was just the prepping coats, it's now in the correct red, my motor factors got a good match but I'm holding off pics until its all done and blended in.

I am still finishing off the passenger rear wing at the moment as there are some complex curves and it needs quite a bit of work to get spot on.

Today I was cutting back the rest of the bodywork I have not been working on as being sat its oxidized and need blending to the new paintwork.

I still need to -

Finish passenger rear wing.
Repaint and put bodykit arches on.
Add missing mounting brackets to front bumper.
Touch up and refit bumpers.
Replace clutch slave cylinder as I think its done.
Get it in for MOT!

I missed off a few of the pics.

Here are some of the biggest respray part, the entire rear window surround, drivers wing and arch plus lights and number plate area.
As you can see the paint went on very dry as it was to hot really.
I'm using rattle cans, my supplier has changes the spray heads and they do not lay it anywhere as nicely as they used to.

Its not a problem , I'm just using more paint then going 800 grit then 1200 then 1500 then 2000 then coarse cutting compound then t-cut , polish and wax (phew, yes and it does take as long as it sounds like it does!).

Luckily I think the bad weather killed the bugs as despite doing all this outside I had no added insects to the paint!

You can see in this pic the result of all that elbow work , the section below the black trim. I am clearly going to have to tart up the fuel cap and surround! This is the issue now, everything needs refurbing as new paint shows it up!

I have begun t-cutting all the old paint to deal with the fade of year and a half of sitting outside being worked on with no regular shampoo and waxes! Here's bonnet , its actually as read as the rear wing pic just my crappy blackberrys camera cannot cope with shine-

I also gave that old faded parcel shelf a clean up as well. It was falling apart so as its made of card I made up some paper mache adn re enforced the rear, then satin blacked the top of shelf

Done a little more

Painted up the front bumper as needed a little work as after removing the washers I had painted with a red that was not quite right

It needed new brackets to replace the heather robinson bolts someone had drilled through the edge of the wing after the old mounting points rusted away
I welded some nuts behind the drilled hole and then bonded it to the bumper. This was then covered in fibreglass to secure them properly

I had to weld up some small holes in the passenger door skin that where then ground back filled and painted.
Thought Id show the process I use for blending new an old paint maybe it will help someone or maybe Il get tips on quicker process!

So first going over with 400 grit, then 800 grit , 1200 grit, 2000 grit then coarse cutting compound then T-Cut then a polish and wax

Bumpers back on and she is starting to come together..

Been a bit quiet as busy with work but have been creeping along to being finished and ready for MOT.

I have refitted the bodykit and bumpers after getting some rubber arch trim to sit between the arch bodykit. I did not paint it, previously someone did a respray on the car and painted this bit and it just flaked. And I quite like the look as is.

I have used screws not rivets to put the kit on so I can access the arches easily and re waxoyl regularly.

And today I finished going round painting the black trim. I had gone a milky grey over time and now the rest of the paint is in good nick looked terrible.

I wanted to make sure it did not flake again, so I used white spirits to clean, then Halfords bumper prep spray then bumper black paint. This was used as a key for another coat of Satin Black.
I did not like the finish of the halfords bumper black hence the satin. And I did not want to use gloss black as I though it was to shiny versus the original look.
I did the door handles and the wing mirrors too as they where also tatty.
All took allot of time consuming fiddly masking!

I am going to do the window frame surrounds next as they are tatty. Then give here a clean, blEed the brakes again and stick her in for an MOT!

Hi Mate

It improves turn in no doubt.

The rear still sits a little high for my liking but it is certainly a little more controllable.

But I think my Blistens dampers where not the right choice to go with it, I think the Koni Sports are needed to get the best from it.

I think the RS Racing kit is viewed as the very best

Latest Update.

With the car sat for 2 years under various tarps and car covers and all the welding and grinding etc, the bodywork needed a proper clean now everything has been sorted.

I started with a T Cut then a clean over with a clay bar.

This was followed by a clean off with a panel wipe type cleaner and then sealed with Wolf Guard Sealant.

All pics are done off my naff 1.3mpx blackberry because I forgot to get the proper camera out!

Alloys are letting the side down now so planning on a refurb but may do that after the MOT. The inside need a major clean out first!
