When I turn the ignition I get a slight kick back or hesitation for the starter motor to start.
Grounds checked and replaced. A new ground cable is fitted directly to the battery.
Advanced checked - first thought was kick back from too advance but that's not the case.
Could it be the solenoid?
I had changed the solenoid but it was one from Brazil which are not very good quality.
The old bosch original is still good I think.
Or if it's not the solenoid I hope it's not a slightly burnt out motor.
My old bosch from Germany was ok.
It has been playing up since I changed it to a new Bosch but made in Brazil which is like the Chinese of S.America, same name but not the same quality.
Maybe the hi-amp contacts are bad already.
I swapped it because I made a big boobooo when rebuilding my engine.
I missed the earthing cable when re-installing the starter motor and suspected the solenoid was stuffed. so I changed it for the new Brazilian one only to find the missing earth cable!!
Maybe revert back to the old German Bosch solenoid.
What about the positive supply? Where and how is that routed to the motor? (does it come from the alternator?)
Well it's connected to both to the battery+ and the alternator B+.
The high amperage input terminal is the location, where the alternator charging wires,
and the thick battery+ supply cable were joined together.
Yes, the solenoid "hi-amp" (marked as "30") input terminal is connected directly to the battery + terminal.
When replacing this cable, the core cross section (excluding the insulation) parameter is very important.
The cross section should be >= 10 sq mm, when the core is made of copper. Thinner cables could easily catch on
fire during cranking.
It's the same thickness as the earth cable i recently bought for the start motor (he sent me a red one by mistake and then sent the black one as a replacement so I have 1 spare).
