I've had the Ring 120% bulbs in the 159 for a month or so now, happy with night driving to be fair, but the opportunity for a very, very cheap set of HIDs came up and I jumped at it!
A fellow AOer had recently taken them out of his Brera S that was going back at the end of the lease, he was happy to send them to me, cheers Ali.....
After doing a few car related jobs this morning, I set about doing the job. Really easy, total of 45 mins maximum.
(I was trying to do this thread in this part of the forum, but not able to add photos as you can in the Motoring Images section, bleeding annoying....)
Excellent, a really good how to guide. I've been thinking about doing this, you're guide will definitely come in useful when I get round to getting some, thanks.
Glad you found your pliers, I had a mishap with a rear light cluster and dropped a socket into the wing, which is where it shall remain.
I had a very similar issue when changing the rear light cluster on my last 159, did exactly the same! Used a bamboo stick and a blob of blu tack to retrieve the offending bolt.
Glad the write up is appreciated, it is well worth it. Tried the lights a few minutes ago, wow. They are bright as.........
Worth the effort.
I have just changed from a set of 35w 6000k because 1 kept going out, maybe as they were only drawing 35w the canbus system thought a bulb was out and switched it off or it was just faulty.
I replaced them with a set of 55w 4300k and they seem to give out far more and a much better light, well worth the £30 they cost
Just been out in the dark, wow. Massive difference in the light coming out of the front end, even compared to the 120% Ring bulbs. Very white and very, very bright.
From what I hear on these forums if you are beating a budget version you are better off with 6000k but I'm yet to get balls big enough to spend this much on some lights that may have colour issues in the future
The kit (if the same as the one they are showing in the photos) are all but identical to the ones we are getting from ebay and the likes.
£130 for fitting?!?!?
crackers indeed. i know they have overheads to cover so could maybe justify the fitting cost, but to stick such a mark up on the lights themselves is a bit dick turpin if y'ask me. maybe they're fandabidozi super duper high quality but to me they look just like the £38 ebay jobs.
by the way - you were robbed at a tenner. got mine from an AO member in a similar situation for free
no, i think they generally last a lot longer than filament bulbs. i keep my old bulbs in the boot though just in case, easy enough to slot back in if needs be
