Well... after 8 months of trouble-free motoring in my 2.4 JTDM, today she let me down. Pulled into my drive and could smell fuel.
Got out of the car to find fuel running out the bottom of the car, opened the bonnet swiftly to find the problem - diesel pouring out of the bottom of the fuel filter. Switched the engine off immediately. Thinking either the filter was damaged or a pipe had split I took the filter off and found that it was simply the sensor that had come loose, checked that this was still intact and the seal was not damaged, tightened it up and now all seems to be well (no fuel coming out anyway).
Apart from my driveway and car now stinking of diesel, I think that has done the job, but my question is has anyone else had this problem and could this happen again? The car is due for service in a couple of months, but I'm wondering if I should change the fuel filter anyway just as a precaution?
