Hi guys, ok here is the deal, i bought a 147 JTDM on auction so i have no history on the car. im experiencing some faults on the car. the first being the fuel gauge right at the bottom with the light flashing, now i have read some suggest a faulty MAF, but upon scanning it with Fiat ECU Scan i found no error concerning a MAF

Thanks. can i do this with fiatecuscan? i noticed theres a injector adjustment function, and how can i reset the ecu? maybe that will help? have you seen this problem before? is it quite common?

right mate does it run rough as well like its missing?

i had a proble where the car ran rough and fuel gauge showed zero with amber light on...it was a bad connection on number 3 injector (counting from left) a couple of zip ties cured it......its been fine since october.....the conector was all gunked up inside and i cleaned it but the problem came back

push the connectors on inector in one at a time and see if engine note changes and get someone to sit in the car and see if the fuel gauge comes to life.......it did for me

your egr could be sticking..........but i think the boost problem is either sticking vanes in the turbo.....or a leaky pipe that goes to the actuator on the turbo restricting movement

Yes I have seen this, we have a repair kit for it, injector 3 connector gives trouble and you need to repair it and re calibrate the injectors and it sorts it, why it makes the fuel gauge behaves like this I have no idea

It seams to be more common on GT's

The repair kit is about £15 if I remember correctly and we have them in stock

I think you can re calibrate using the Fiat scan thing but I have never used it so can't tell you how that particular bit of kit works

The car runs smooth and quite strong but, only for a while if I drive it in boost and then it cuts fuel for limp mode, I checked the boost with FES and it stays constant and always in the desired range, so the boost is not a problem. Does the EGR also cause the fuel gauge light to come on? Or not?
dont know mate sorry:-(
only time i have seen gauge drop like that was when it happened to me........had comments like it must be gauge/sender.............but the problem only happened when the car far rough......mcsf also came on too.............it was the injector conector

maybe you have a air leak in the high pressure hose from the turbo this would mean less air than expected and much more fuel hence the black smoke. this is exactly the situation with a stuck open EGR as all the turbo pressure disapears via the open valve into the exhaust leaving a massive amount of fuel but not enough air hence black smoke again. i would check for leaks . check down near the air filter houseing as there is a stud with wears into the turbo hose with time

The second problem is that if i drive the car more spirited so that it boosts and pulls strongly, it is not long then a MCSF comes up and limp mode is activated. the fault i get upon scanning is...

P1191 - Fuel pressure

The Fuel Pressure Switch/Sensor circuit is defective. Check the associated wiring and connectors for opens, shorts and weak connections, and the switch itself.
Bosch Peugeot-Citroen systems: typical resistance is in the 2.3 Ohm range
The reason for this fault is that ECU has received very high signal from the sensor. The fault is not detected now, but it is stored in memory. Clear fault codes, and observe for future appearance of the same fault. Dashboard warning light was activated for this fault.

is this a common fault? is there a known cure or do you guys have some advice for me regarding this? also can this and the flashing fuel light have a connection meaning that its not only the MAF that causes this behavior?

Another thing i believe is faulty is the egr, i think its stuck because she likes her smokey smokey a bit but not so much that it looks like a turbo is blowing and also she is a bit slugish below 2000rpm but again is that linked to the dead flashing gauge?

About the gauge: i was thinking maybe the level sensor is faulty or stuck but certainly that would make the light just stay on and the gauge zero? as far as i could understand the fact that the light is flashing means somethings broken?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!
faulty maf does not necessarily throw a ecu error code
clean your egr and map sensor (located top of inlet manifold)

Thanks for all the advise, i think i might have found a problem, i noticed the pipe coming from the intercooler to the intake manufold has a silver type of tape wrapped around it at the top, mmmm maybe it loses pressure there obviously when i wind the car up because then the boost becomes too much to handle for the tape, but i still dont see how this can make the fuel guage do the flash error thing because the MCSF isnt on the whole time, mmmmmmm will investigate as i go

Ok I fixed the pipe, no joy unfortunately, Im just going to satisfy fiatecuscan and replace what it wants, the fuel pressure sensor. But I dont know where it is, so does anyone know where I can find it?

OK, quick update on the progress, i got the fuel guage working again! a fellow member in our alfa club told me the flashing light means its not getting any signal, so i took out the rear diesel pump and as sure as hell i notice one of the wires coming from the level sensor has pulled out of its lug, so i bought a new lug, put on, plugged everything back in, put in the pump and it didnt work still :( by now i was pretty agitated but i soldiered on, so i take out the pump have a look at it, remove the sensor and notice that one of the little plates that is supposed to run on a circuit is not touching it so i bent it a bit so that it made contact, so i wasnt feeling like putting the pump in again to test, instead i pulled out the pump fuse, plugged the sensor back in, plug the whole pump module in and turned the ignition on, this time the guage just kept showing full no matter where i put the sensos pickup, aaarrgghhhh so i adjusted the plates running on the circuits and kept testing in between for about an hour until i eventually gave up and just put everything together to put the car away where i cant see it.

Weirdly enough after it was put together i turned the car on and viola!! it works!! it actually shows the correct level!! whoohoo! drinks all round, wait a minute.... ah crap i forgot to put the o ring on, and out comes the pump again hehe anyway i put the o ring in and everything concerning the fuel guage is sorted now.

Are those seals expensive? Are they dealers only or is it a sort of general o.ring? Is this a problem youve seen before and do you think it could be the cause?

Sorry im bombarding you with all these questions.

Hello, just a quick update ever since it became seriously cold in my area, the problem went away, now that that temp has picked up a bit its back, anyone heard of this before?

Also im thinking it might be caused by a split hose somewhere? ive replace the top one going into the intake manifold, are there others i should look at? the reason i suspect boost leak is because when idling lately i hear a pulsating air like sound synced with the beat of the idling, i guess its best described sounding as ts ts ts ts ts and when accelerating over 2000RPM i can hear a whoosh sound, not a whistling sound but more a wsssshhhhh, it does pull well though but then again i have no reference as to how a normal 16v pulls.

Currently im planning on servicing MAP, EGR, MAF, VGT and looking for boost leaks, just searching for good guides, if anyone knows of good guides for the above please share links
lower boost pipe is holed

ok ive grown tired of this, went to bosh and booked it in, guy said its prabably pdv valve or the hp pump anyways, bosch got all the tools to test their own stuff so ill leave it in their hands
