My engine seems to be ticking more than normal, increases with revs. Is this something to be concerned about?

Cheers

What kind of ticking mate ?? I have just bought a 3.0 GTV myself and found i have some kind of ticking - but im sure its more of a rattle, since if i depress my clutch just slightly - it goes !

Strange not to have any reply here, i wish i could offer more info but i am absolutely crap with mechanics !! I just drive...

If you have owned the car a long time and its just appear, could be OK - since you probably check your oil level regular ?? One post i did see somewhere was that it could be tappets - but thats usually dependant on what GTV you have i.e. phase 1, 2 or 3 ?

Cant see your pic awfully well but looks like a 99' T reg ?? Which if it has the 6 speed box, will be the phase 2 i believe. Which if correct should be hydraulic tappets and they should not be a problem. Check your spark plugs - sounds silly but they can come loose and cause such ticking.

Hope iv been of some help, dont take my word too seriously though, im going off memory of posts iv read in the past !! Could really do with someone who knows their stuff giving some advice !

i find the meetings i attend good for this sort of thing as you can literally hear another of same model and gain an oppinion, ticking is going to be subjective who knows if its normal or abnormal ???

Oil is only around 6 months old. However i have noticed the last couple of weeks it has started using oil a little cos ibv had to top it up.

Read on a sticky somewhere about revving the engine a bit to fill the lifters with oil, so will give that a go at the weekend.

Could be manifold gasket leaking.. It seems to be coming from left rear of the engine (as you stand in front).

It a p2 yes. The plugs are a bit of a ball ache to get to arent they?

Cheers all

Front plugs are not so bad - read plugs... well i havent ventured there yet !! lol I like Ians tip there, will remember that one for future reference ;)

Above mentioned variators are definately something to consider - likelyhood is you havent had them done before ?? And their not uber expensive and will rejuvenate top end revs ! But you can only at best narrow down to a few options here, might be worth taking it to an Alfa specialist - a good one will identify the problem right away after checking areas you can do yourself

Get that done with tha variator at the same time then :) Also im going to presume the waterpump should be done if it wasnt done with second cam change ??
