Very tempting rich :rolleyes: Be interesting to see what it makes.

I'd like to get a good look at it see how good it really is! No doubt there'll be a few hidden dangers!

Make a nice project and hopefully the repairs are a good quality and the sills haven't been welded over the original rotten ones eh Adi ;)

I used to live and work in Bury st. edmunds where this car is, I never saw it in all the 12 years I lived there although I know Cracknells garage in a village nearby had a few suds in the past, it could be or have been one of their cars, unsure, looks really nice though, hope it goes to a good home.....

Foul swoop? is that word play? Did a bit of research. Found this on the interweb.

The phrase is an old one. It may have been coined by Shakespeare in 1605, or he may merely have popularised it. In any case, the following lines can be found in Macbeth (Act 4, scene 3). Macduff has just heard that his family have been killed:

All my pretty ones?
Did you say all?—O hell-kite!—All?
What, all my pretty chickens, and their dam,
At one fell swoop?

So Shakespeare does employ the image of a bird of prey, a “hell-kite”, swooping to the ground to kill all his “pretty chickens”. But the word he uses is “fell”. This, of course, is still a common word, but Shakespeare is using a rather obscure sense of that word, meaning of terrible evil or ferocity. Its source is the same as felon, a wicked person.

So, “one fell swoop” originally meant a sudden, ferocious attack, although the sense of savagery in the phrase has been lost over the years and people now use it to mean, simply, all at once.

Thanks. My intention is to get back home safely (to London) and see what's what. I'm hoping to get it up on a lift this Friday so I'll take some pics and report back.

If it's good, then the plan is for a light rolling restoration. If it's got some 'special treats' in store for me, then so be it.... Either way, the aim in 2012 is to restore her to her original beauty.

I've been alfa-less for a year or so (since selling the 156 GTA) but have some history with Lancia Montecarlos and Alfa 33s / Sprints so have some idea of what I'm getting into.... I think!

To be honest, I can't wait!! Watch this space...

So... I drove the 90-ish miles back home from picking up earlier today with no issues.

Here are my first impressions:

The Drive - pulls well, brakes well, sweet revving, slick gearchange (excellent synchro), precise steering, no noises, vibrations or rattles etc. After 70 miles of motorway, I spent 40 minutes in traffic and there were no temperature issues and the oil pressure was good. It wasn't an exciting drive (A12, M25, South London) but I had a big grin when I got back.

The Interior - The seats and carpets are a bit tired, but it's all complete and functions as it should. Nobody's put holes in the door cards or rear shelf, all the dials and gagues work and are illuminated properly; indicators, wipers (don't intend to use them very often!) heater, demister, hazzards etc all fine. Steering wheel, gear knob, window winders etc are all correct and all the badges and pieces of trim are intact.

The Body - Not had a detailed look yet, but the repairs that have been done seem to have been done properly. Exterior panels are good, wheel arches, engine bay, boot floor, jacking points all good. It's been waxoiled regularly. There is a very small amount of bubbling at the top of one of the doors and near the wipers, but look superficial. I think all the glass is original. Paint wise, its OK... the roof hasn't been done brilliantly and some areas are tired and there are a couple of stone chips... although I may be being overly harsh on it. Will have a good look tomorrow in proper daylight. (Incidentally, I'm still 50/50 on the colour - it suits the car in a 70s kind of way, but wouldn't ideally have been my choice. I'm all for keeping the car original, but would value people's opinion on a colour change)

History - There isn't any, which is a shame - a couple of old MOTs and thats it. The car has 5 previous owners.

Overall - delighted :) It's now safely tucked up in a warm garage.

BTW, chap who sold it was fantastic - very accomodating and even filled her up with fuel and threw a box of spares into the boot before I left. Micky - if you're on here, thanks very much !

Well done great purchase. I looked at that and fell in love myself. :inlove:

If that colour is the AR531 Coral Red / Corrallo Torre Del Greco then it has got to stay, it was rare in 1978 and must be even more so now. Not only that but IMHO it actually looked better than Racing Red because the orange worked better with the black Ti trim, oh and my old 1978 1.2 Ti, SER 158S, was the above colour. :thumbs::thumbs:

Brown!!!

Oh well, in the photos on ebay I thought it was just the way the photos depicted orange :confused: Still I think I remember the colour now, "Bruno Cilento", didn't know it was called that.

So I bet you can guess what colour I will suggest if you choose to repaint, yes it is AR531 Coral Red / Corrallo Torre Del Greco. ;);)

Keep the original colour for sure, it's a 70's car and it should have a 70's colour, there are hardly any original series 1 Ti's left in the uk, the colour to me is great but obviously it's your car :)
That car will be worth a lot more than you paid in the future if you keep it to its original spec when you do any restoration work on it. Changing wheels and maybe engine is ok though in my eyes as they can easily be changed back again but a colour change can't be changed back so easy. good luck with her anyway and please keep us posted on what you do (please to hear she is garaged) :)

What he said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^. A good original car is best kept that way even if it looks a little tired here and there. Mods are best kept for cars that have already lost their originality or ones that aren't so rare.

That bubbling at the corner or the windscreen will probably need a bit of surgery to fix it properly, windscreen out and a bit of new metal let in unfortunately.

I think you got a bargain.

Yes, I think I got a bargain too. :)

Having slept on it, I completely agree that such an original car should remain original. That said, I am inclined to use the winter to have the engine out, address the cosmetic (and any structural) rust and get her professionally resprayed. I think this will have a big visual impact. It also presents the opportunity to clean up the engine bay - I do like to see everything neat, tidy and shiny under the bonnet.

First step - she's book in for a thorough inspection, oil change and cambelt on 4th Jan.
