Quick question in regards to my recent thread about dropping the engine.
I see clearly now that you dropped the cross member and front suspension arms.
So looks like I understand now. lol
From this diagram is this what you did? Remove the 2 main bolts on the front cross member screwed into the chassis threads and then the 1 bolt holding the suspension arm on near the strut?
Also how did you release the rubber exhaust mountings? Did you just raise the pipe to loosen them slightly and lever them off with a screwdriver?
Hey there, to get the cross member off in1st undid the bolts that connect the front and rear suspension arms then the 3 bolts either side on the crossmember it's self, once it was down I then freed off the front arms from the rears taking the crossmember and front suspension arms off together....
The exhaust rubbers were easy, just pulled them about a bit and took them off by hand.
engine crane picked up this evening, had planned to fetch the engine and box out tonight but slight change of plan, had to take daughter to a&e with a broken finger!
good to know she's ok, kids are very resilient aren't they
my sarah got her fingers trapped on the inside of her bedroom door last year, near where the hinges are, and her cousin slammed the door while messing around stripped the skin from 2 or 3 knuckles
next morning she was peeling the plasters off to have a look
My 19 month old boy scraped all his skin off his knees 3 times last weekend out in our beach house. They were raw and dripping with blood. nasty.
Also got his finger trapped in the door.
he ripped his knee plaster off this morning and giggled!!
as you can see I was able to use the engine crane's legs to roll the engine & box out from under the car, continue to be pleased with the condition of the car, okay it's bee off the road for about 6 years but it would have still been nearly 14 years old at that point so seems this car has been well cared for and garaged for the majority of it's life.
had a bit more time this morning to mess about, got the motor up on the stand and to my surprise both belts are intact as the guy I bought it from was sure it'd dropped on one side, can't get a full revolution from the crank though, seems there are some jammed valves on the left hand side so needs stripping any way.
will continue to post updates and pics if you're interested.
still nothing to obvious wrong with the engine, both pistons are free to move up and down to assuming nothing to horrible inside the crank case, will look at the other side tomorrow
In all honesty the engine is scrap, bore is savable but the crank isn't, also the amount of metal that has been floating about in the oil I would be worried about the pump as well...
So I'm on the hunt for a short motor or complete engine but what Ive been told to expect to pay for one isn't going to happen before Christmas
not sure what I was expecting as its been my intention all along to strip to virtually nothing but it does take a while this....
so engine, gearbox, cross member, wiring, side braces, steering rack, washer bottle, air box etc etc...
now mentioning the air box and washer bottle may seem like minor items but they are a proper pain in the hoop to get out, the utterly ridiculous, shitty little clips used to make the nuts captive all around the engine bay are starting to get in my bits....
let that dry properly and then break out the stone chip and hammerite then I can start to trying to put the wiring loom and stuff back in, think I should renew the brake pipes whilst I'm at it.
