Independent Alfa GT service advice Cheshire / Shropshire areas

Hello everyone.

I'm new to the forum and new to Alfa Romeo after buying my 07 GT Lusso diesel about 8 weeks ago.

I've been lurking around reading the advice from the knowledgable people here.

I'm pleased with my car so far in terms of performance, economy, safety and style. After owning a beloved mx-5 for a number of years and being used to doing a lot of my own maintenance, I am aware that the GT is more of a complex unit, so will be using professional servicing.

My first questions are as follows:
My car is July 07 with 35,000 on the clock. It has full Alfa dealer service history (last one was the after-sales one in Sept, but took them less than an hour), and the car was sold with an Alfa used vehicle warranty. What would be your advice as to when to have the cambelt/ pump changed? I don't fancy that snapping.

I have been reading on here some of the quoted prices for dealer servicing. Are there any recommended independent specialists in my area? I am just on the Cheshire / Shropshire border and sometimes work in North Staffs.

How would I stand with the warranty if I used an independent dealer for the service?

Allitalia in Wrexham maybe? Don't think it's too far from you and it's who I've used for the past couple of years with no problems.

They're the only people my mate will let near his lancia and he's a right fussy sod!
Howard's expensive in comparison with some specialists but it's worth it. Recomended.

Not easy to find his garage though!

Thanks S LLoyd and Singularity. I think Wrexham will be slightly more convenient for me, but I can ring both for quotes beforehand. I'm surprised there aren't any closer though.

Will I be safe to hang out for the 5th service for the cambelt and pump?

The timing for diesel belts is offically 72k miles or 5 years which ever occurs first - most indis (and forum users) will suggest 60k miles and 4 years is safer, so unless they have been done once already you are overdue by time. You will also need to get the waterpump replaced as this appears to be the weak point.

Thanks Marc. Sandbach would be convenient.

My cambelt and pump are the original ones, and was hoping to hang on for the 5th year service next Aug. If the belt was to snap pre-5 years, ( I know it would be expensive ), would I have any redress given full alfa service history and an approved alfa warranty?
