Suspension changed, now weird noises

FFS!!!!! I just had the whole front suspension re-done and a wheel bearing and now its moaning away like a child locked in with the devil
Basically it sounds like a wheel bearing but it was replaced the other day and this sound is different than a wheel bearing sound. Turning left or right doesnt change the sound and going straight is the same story. The sound is the worst and loudest at approx 90kph (50ish mph)
It starts at around 30mph then gets silent at around 70kph and then becomes a banshee at 90 and then the road noise kinda drowns it out afterwards. Ive changed all 4 tyres yesterday as the others were bald. The car does seem, to me anyway, to be sitting quite low at the front but it still absorbs all bumps nicely. Performance isnt affected and there are no other issues or vibrations.
Any ideas?

forgot this you just hag ya front suspension done have you not ???????? now whoevr did it might not have set top mount to coincide with bottom fork so it could be twisted in bottom mountcheck both sides as well

get under car and check lower arm where fork is bolted through.........and see if its straight in bush....could be cocked so to speak

Ok just back from having the wheel alignment and even though the nut holding the tie rod end was loose (now its been tightened) and the tracking was completely off its still doing the droaning noise.
Im at a loss now as to what it is and just cant stand the noise of it! Im really starting to think that its another wheel bearing - that maybe both front wheel bearings were failing. What I caught a glimpse of though however is that the nut on the hub of the passenger wheel was brand new and AFAIK it was the right side that the bearing was failing but i didnt get a chance to check if it was new or not. Ill have to remove the wheel and inspect cause if it is old and rusty looking then ill know that the wrong wheel bearing was changed. Thing is though that the invoice i was given with a list of all the work carried out shows that the right hand side wheel bearing was changed.
Now the missus is complaining that there is always something wrong with the car and im starting to agree. Although i cant fault the car if retarded mechanics cant do a job properly, but i know that the mechanic i used for the job was a specialist. ehhh when will it all end
Oh and i did a proper check on the bearings on the way back by moving left to right and vice versa, going both quick and slowly and the volume of the droaning deosnt change in the slightest, so half of me is thinking it aint the bearing and the other half is thinking it is - unless its the rear bearings although I had one of them replaced nearly 2 years ago now. to say the least

I keep remembering things after ive posted them, but this droaning noise only started when it went in for upper wishbones. Went in with no noises, came out went for a drive and noises started. Brought back to said retard mechanic who said it was the joints, had them replaced, noise still there. he said probably the bearing so 700e later and whole new suspension including tyres and tracking and still droaning noise present.
When i got the tyres changed one of the guys said that the alloys at the back are a bit bent but i cant be 100% sure of that. Ive had a bent alloy before and the knocking from it rendered it un-driveable.

bo33ocks. nope didnt check. I just looked for straightness and then to see if there was any play in them. Another indicator for me thats it the wheel bearing is that it makes a type of woo woo woo noise and i can feel this rythem in the accelerator. Only thing that goes against this theory is that it doesnt change pitch going right or left. But Ive noticed (or its just psychological) that the noise seems a bit lower - not much but a bit after having the tracking done

Just jacked up the car to investigate better and i made two videos. The first one is of the right hand side wheel (this is the one the bearing should have been changed on) Ive no idea what this noise could be, either sticking pads or discs but they are both new

The next video is of the left side wheel - now im not sure whats going on with this particular wheel but there is a droaning noise coming from the wheel, you may be able to hear it and its also a bit harder to spin it freely, it wasnt as loose as the right side wheel. You can hear the droaning around 4sec but its most clear when i put the camera behind the wheel.

Are you guys agreeing with me that it seems like the right left side wheel bearing is failing?

Both sound like back plate touching the discs mate. Quite common and easy to correct. Where the lower arm meets the hub the plate is probably touching there. Back of the disc face.

Oh and your wheels are a state bear. :tut: you should be ashamed of yourself :p

Ah Joss to the rescue  Doesnt the second video sound like a wheel bearing though? Also would this plate cause bad noises whilst driving giving the impression of a wheel bearing? I can feel this noise through the accelerator and its the most audible at 90km/h

Yeah the plate would be audible at high speed. A very loud noise as I had it with mine a while back. Could also be a dragging pad possibly. I'd lean towards these much more than a WB with that noise. What are the sliders like on the caliper and also what are the surfaces like where the edge of the pad touch the caliper carrier. these often corrode causing them to drag? All of this will cost you nothing in parts for once :D

God I hope so.... August has cost me over a grand in repairs  Im gonna have to sell the ball and chain's ring to fund more repairs
I had the discs replaced in August so I know for sure that the discs are fine. So im basically looking for where the caliper etc touch the discs? Is there a way to check the pads or would i need to remove them?

#21 ·
Nope you have misuderstood mate  Nowt wrong with the disc. But to protect the bottom ball joint which sits right next to the disc and also to stop water splash there is a back plate. this quite often gets bent when doing supension changes or changing the discs. Just need to be pryed away from the disc again. As for the sliders on the caliper and the pad on the carrier you can see it if you take the wheel off but it 's better to disassemble.

Click would be cv joint not WB. Yep. Wheel off so you can see the disc. Look behind the disc at the bottom. You'll see a big 22mm nut which holds the lower Wishbone to the hub/upright. The plate is dirrectly next to the nut between the disc and the nut (you'll see what I mean) The plate will be rubbing near here probably

And yes your maf is probably the cause of all this :p

#25 ·
So ill just unplug it and see what happens  ah if only things were that easy
Well it deffo wont be cv joints as both driveshafts were replaced along with everything else. Please dont ask me what was changed :)
Cheers Joss, once the sun pops out and the hurricane dies down a bit ill go and check it out. If its rubbing its a simple matter of prying it free and hey presto...

#26 ·
Yeah I knew it wasn't. I remember reading your old posts. Still think the MAF may be the fault though ;)

Well i came back now from a mixed drive.. speed, traffic etc and felt if any excessive heat was coming from the wheels. All the alloys had normal warmth around around them but when i touched the passenger wheel (the video with the droaning noise) it was much warmer than the others, not lava hot but noticeably hot. Gonna let it cool down a bit and then jack up the passenger wheel, remove and inspect. From those videos Joss would you say both those wheels are having the same story or its more the passenger wheel being a *******?

#28 ·
Well if the drivers wheel is cold I'd say defo on teh back plate. The passenger is warm so binding brake and if not then look at the wheel bearing.
