Anyone got an idea why my 156 2.0 TS petrol has got this intermittent problem? My mate says it could be muck in the fuel injection system.

Could be lots of reasons .. old plugs (change all 8 every 60000 miles, coil pack(s), lambda (life around 60000 miles) or even wrong make (it should be Bosch), MAF (again needs to be Bosch) , sticking or dirty injectors ... where do you want to start?!?

The only way you are really going to know is to get the fault codes read .. even then it might not show any as the MAF has a habit of starting to go and not telling you as it doesn't show up any faults until it has completely died. You can end up spending a lot of money of bits you didn't really need to with out this basic check.
