I'm looking into upgrading the brakes on my 1989 Sprint. The rear brakes are drums, so there's not much to do there. The fronts I'm told are the same as the 33. Can anyone recommend disc/pads from experience that will suit fast road and occasionally trackday use? Cheers.
I can't recommend Ferodo DS2500 enough. I've just replaced my pads which came with my Brembo kit with DS2500's and there is a big difference.
I used the previous DS2000 on my previous brake setup and these were great pads and I never managed to fade them even after repeated heavy braking in the middle of the day in summer (50 degC).
I think there are a number of guys using there cars for road and track and I know a number are using DS2500's.
I used to have a 1.7 Sprint and had a set of Brembo drilled discs and Mintex pads. I used this car on the track and the brakes were very good - no problem with fade or warping.
Dare I show everyone here my Sprint brake upgrade?
I use 305x28mm discs from Fiat coupe with Alfa (Brembo) 147GTA 4-pot callipers, original for the 330mm discs. The rest of the brake system has 33 16V spec. except the rear that has Alfetta rear callipers on original Sud discs. It all works very well, and stops the car very fast.
The only said thing is that I am limited to use 17inch rims with this setup, but I think I can live with that...
[off topic]WOW.... 17inch rims? Do they fit to the car? What size do tyres have? [/off topic]
Well i will change the sprint calipers/disks front with those from 33 16v and i will use EDOT5 fluids ( will by them from toyota) because they have beetter thermal response...
I'm using this setup for everyday use and occasional track days (for example last Sunday - track with 2 heavy brakings from 170-180 km/h, 6 rounds with no fading )
If you want more you can use 284 discs and Vauhall/Opel Calibra V6 calipers - even easier to fix (no special bolts, no washers, no disc machining), but harder to find...
