Hi all, door lock frozen this morning on drivers side, climbed in through passenger side, tried to open from inside and heard a bit of a noise, now got a flappy inside door handle, and drivers door won't open!
Am I going to have to cut into door card to open the door?
And to top it off, small puddle of red antifreeze on floor, minor leak to now find!!! Aaggghhh!
Apply heat to the door lock (hair dryer?) to unfreeze the mechanism then open the door using your key and normal door opening button or by pulling up on the plastic pin that protrudes from the top of the door trim, take the door card off and fix the door pull, in future winter conditions make sure that you keep the mechanism lubricated by spraying wd40 through the key hole every few days
this happened to me last winter and all i done got some boiling water or as msgtv said heat it up with hairdryer and lock released it self and my handlw went back to normal
empty LOADS of silicone spray inside keyhole, down the inside lock button hole and anywhwere else you can around lock. Its better than wd40 as its far less oily. Also good on the rubber door frames and window seals.
Stops it freezing and makes it smooth action.
I have just had a wire down the window seal and managed to open it just like the movies. Jack Bauer eat your heart out.
I thought something had snapped, as even with the defrosting it still was not working and still had a flappy door handle, but now after I had the cable down there, it seems to have fixed it, and lock works back to normal again.
God I love alfas!
