A new member to the forum and a Brera fantatic, I just thought I'd say I have just had mny first test drive of a 2006 2.2 JTS sv in Alfa Red with 18'' Horseshoes, Blue & me and 43k with full main dealer histtory.
some things that are bugging me - the oil pressue guiage stayed at 70 the whole test drive - is this the default (needle didnt move) o9r is this a sign of as faulty guage?
secondly, the silver trim bits were quite badly scored, especially around the steering wheel, door handles and centree console (i pressume a big set of keys have been hooked onto the key card and thus caused chipping). is this a common thing to expect??
there were also a good few marks/.stone chips around the front. would the shapoe of the car mean this is inevitable or am I jsut being picky?
it was a nice driving car, dash quite big and upright and a little hard to see in front of you, and extremely hard to see out the rear!!
everyone seemed to work 100%
p.s is it only the diesels that does an oil test wehen the car is started or should petrolsd do this too?? maybe linke3d to possible faulty oil guage??
Overall I loved the car, but think I would be suited to the more grunt and affordability of mpg from the diesel....a 2.2 seemed a littrle slow and mpg wasnt great
There is an oil level guage on start-up on the main display
and an oil temperature gauge on the leftmost of the 3 centre console gauges.
(it's Turbo Boost on the DERVs and TBi)
Hi,
I've had my Brera 2.2 JTS for a few weeks now and am loving it.
The oil temp gauge usually stays below half way unless really working the engine. below are the comments from the manual
ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE
GAUGE
(petrol versions) fig. 17
This shows the temperature of the engine
oil and begins working when the
oil temperature exceeds approx. 70°C.
If the pointer reaches the red sector, reduce
your demand on the engine.
The turning on of the warning light `
when travelling (together with a message
on the display) indicates that the
oil temperature is too high; in this case,
stop the engine and contact Alfa Romeo
Authorized Services.
IMPORTANT The temperature of the
engine oil may rise towards the maximum
values (red sector) when the car
is driven at low speeds, uphill, fully
laden or during towing, especially if the
ambient temperature is high.
also if you are thinking of getting the 2.4 JTD for the fuel consumption, i would read the posts in the forum about the mpg people actually get, most do not get close to the combined mpg figure.

I've had my 2.2 Brera JTS for two weeks now and I absolutely love it. Same colour and wheels as the one you test drove, not that it makes any difference mind you!
There's plenty of power in the engine, would the 2.4 diesel be much more powerful anyway? If you're talking about affordability it doesn't seem like you'd be booting it all the time!
All cars get stone chips and they're easy enough to touch up so I wouldn't worry about that either.
The oil pressure gauge should definitely move though. Unless you went on a really short run and the engine didn't warm up? When I turn mine on the display between the two dials tells me how much oil is in the car, mine's a 59 though, so it might be a little different.
I would be concerned about the scratches to the centre console. That's the sort of thing that would really bug me and I bet a dealer would charge a bomb to replace it.
The car did not have the oil display feature active at least when I was with it today - I spend almost 2 hours with it and it wasnt there.
The dash seems to be documented throughout the forums after a look - and other panels such as door cards and steering wheel - a bad design/material on alfa's part it seems. It does look unsightly to say the least.
what should someone be paying for a car such as this?? can anyone give examples of what they have paid for their own 2.2 JTS's recently ( be it 2006 or not)
I said above about the diesel as though I've never owned one before, its mapability and extra power and economy appeal even if the initial cost is greater - I've done some sums and the diesel would seem to get an extra 70-80 miles per tank based on a combined figure of 33mpg, versus one of 28 in the 2.2
does anyone have a 2.4 in Northern Ireland that would be willing to meet so i can have a look and get driven in one??
