Howdy, With the freezing temperatures my GTV is a nightmare to get in to. I took the advice of someone at work and put a light coat of vaseline around the door seals but the doors are still frozen solid.

The central locking seems to work and you can push the door button in but the door is like i said solid. I have used a lock de icer but nowt works..I read on another thread about using a silicone lube but where do you spray it? in the lock where the key goes or at the side of the door? Is it just the lock part that freezes or is it the hinges or rubber seals? or all 3?

Also is the silicone lube normal WD40 or if not what?

cheers people

I got silicone lube spray from Robert Dyas £4.79 a tin. Sprayed in both locks, around the button and sprayed onto cloth and wiped rubber seals around door aperture.

Trouble is I don't know if it has worked because I haven't needed to drive the car for two weeks and it's not that cold anymore...

Hi all

Dont know about GTV's but i have always used the luke warm water trick however i pour in table salt, shake it up and so far have not had it freeze on door rubbers, lock, windows etc! Its only a tiny bit of salt water so will make no difference in the long run.

My doors always seem to freeze up first sign of frosty weather. Not usually anything to do with glass or rubber seal tho - Typically when operating central locking fob door pins rise up and then go straight back down! Further presses of fob result in no movement of pins tho indicators flash doors still won't open. Lock barrels have to be gradually coaxed free with de-icer or in desperation - 'hot water'. It does free em up at the time but I realize will only perpetuate problem for later. Once I can get one door open (always seems passenger side frees up easier) and into car can usually open other door from inside. However with recent cold weather tried pulling very stiff door lever inside to free stuck drivers door where upon sounded like something snapped and handle just flapped about with door was still stuck fast! My initial thoughts were "Ooops! now I've busted something expensive?" A couple of days later when a lot warmer tried the fob and all unlocked/locked and working well again?? Interestingly when it was really cold (-12) and expected to have big problems unlocking, amazingly they worked fine only when it got slightly warmer and wetter (still sub zero) did they start playing up again. Must be to do with moisture in air - when it's really cold freeze dries any moisture. Having read threads here will now go and copiously use silicone/wd40 and hope sorts ready for next cold snap!
