After sticking with the car through various problems. I took the car to be fixed New Radiator, Thermostat and Header Tank £380.00 out of my pocket to cure the Overheating problem, and lo and bloody behold not only is the problem still there but it now appears to be the Water pump that is at fault because the Waterpump wasn't replaced when they fitted a new Cam Belt for the previous owner some bloody specialist eh! Also the Clutch would not engage a Gear it went straight down to the floor and I had to use brute strength to get a gear not sure what that is but all I know this car is on borrowed time.

We've all been there mate, but stick with it. You have what is proberbly the finest V6 engine produced planted in an undisputidly beautiful car. The owners before you have evidently not looked after the car properly......if you sell her, you will regret it. Get her sorted and enjoy a very fine motor:thumbs:
Someone recently rigged up an electric water pump to boost the performance of the failing internal one. Might be an option until the next belt change...
Clutch sounds like it either needs bled, or the master/slave cylinder is duff. Check there's fluid in the reservoir too.
The water pump isnt a necessity to be replaced with the cambelt. It is something you would normally need to ask them to do. Maybe they should of told you that is its advised to be done.
It's common knowledge that the water pump is the achilles heel of the engine and should be done with the belt, and a "specialist" would normally ask if (recommenend that) you want it.
I've spent £9k on my 5 alfas since january this year!! Would wiling spend more if i hadn't recently been given notice of redundancy 5 days after i bought my GT V6!
Trying everything possible to makes sure i don't have to sell it
Perhaps the previous owner didn't want to pay for a replacement pump - maybe they planned to sell the car...so I disagree with any innuendo that Autodelta are lacking any professionalism. Maybe you know more, but haven't led on, no idea.
Anyway, sorry to hear of your woes. Hopefully you do stick with it, as the others have encouraged too.
I replaced my water pump at 32k when gettings belts done. I was advised to have it done, as said already it is optional extra.
Just as well I did as the water pump they took off had a crack on it from the middle!
Meta impellored one now....sorted!
usually I always say: if it works, don't fix it but with the waterpumps with plastic impellors you better be
safe than sorry....
same with tensioners for the belts, no plastic bits there... many have destroyed engines before their time, steel
tensioner wheels (although they are tougher on the belt) are much better
So the 3.2 V6 on the GT has the waterpump with plastic impellars. How silly, when we all know the GTV/916 Spider V6s have the metal one. This is a known upgrade on the 156, so I find it amazing that Alfa Romeo would fit the plastic impellar one on the V6 GT. Not much consistency from the manufacturer is there?
Also really amazed that Autodelta didn't replace the waterpump with the metal impellar one. Must have been an off-day imho.
Not all have plastic impellars as original. When I changed mine at 47,000 miles the original one I took off had an metal impellar. Wish there had been a way of telling before hand.
