I know there has been badge threads already, but none of them on the 147, (this model's badge seems to be attached differently to the other cars described??).

My front badge has punctured lacquer, so has faded badly. Bought a nice shiny new one. ....but can't figure out how to get the old one off??? There seems to be 2 different sets of bolts that could apply, and the back of the new badge has a threaded brass bit.

Has anyone successfully changed a badge on a 147 who could help?:D (Its a pre-face lift model by the way).

And I'm thinking about drilling the old bolt out so I can get the proper new badge on, what is peoples opinions of doing that?

Replacing front badge Alfa 147

Hi all
I'm a new member to this site as i've just bought my 1st Alfa a 147 1.6 Lusso in red.

I have just replaced the front badge on mine. The rear of the front badge is held on by an allen key type bolt which was corroded and broke off inside the badge when i tried to remove it!
I drilled out the front of the badge very carefully first using a very small drill bit by drilling a circle pattern of holes around the very centre of the badge. This is a bit tricky and time consuming but when you remove the centre it will reveal a hexagon nut fixed inside the badge. You can then get a 10mm sockett on this and at the same time get an allen key on the other side.By turning both in opposite directions the bolt and badge will come free of your bonnet! This did take me about 1 hour but the new badge is in place and was well worth the effort as it looks so much better.

I'm about to attempt the rear one next.

Hope this helps anyone trying the same job

I'm about to do this job again on my facelift 147, which is a different fitment from my older model I had previously. Three bolts this time - unfortunately all of which are spinning on the side I can't get at! Any ideas how to remove? My other half suggested bolt cutters?

When I did my facelift one I had the same problem. There isn't actually any bolts which go into the badge its self so the way I did it was to use fishing line and a very thin flexible modelling knife to get under the badge and lever it out without having to take any of the surround apart. This seemed to work fine but obviously you have to be very very careful not to damage the surround so it's very fiddly.

The one hitch was the 2 plastic locater pins on the old badge snapped off while I was removing it and I couldn't get behind them to push them out. In the end I got annoyed and just pushed them through the other way into the housing where I believe they still remain. I'm not sure if they ever make a rattling sound when I go over bumps but the badge looks great again so who cares:D

Thanks Ratatouille -I have bought the full replacement badge with the chromed "wings", and I'd like to use the full ensemble, as the chrome wings on the car badge at the mo are quite pitted and marked, so this method wouldnt work for me. I'm just so frustrated that all of the bolts just spin, so I can't loosen them off.

Ah I see, I considered doing the same but checked the bolts before I ordered and couldn't see any way to get them off without cutting them. There doesn't appear to be anything to hold them and molegrips just crushed the ends so I gave up and just did the badge. I hope you manage to sort it.

The bolts aren't threaded for the first few millimetres so put a vice grips on that area to stop the bolt from spinning while you use a spanner to loosen the nuts off, hopefully once they are loose you can get them off without any problem. Careful you don't damage the threads though ;)
