Today I decided to tidy up my 147's wiring around the fuses under the steering wheel.
I disconnected the battery's negative , disconnected two plugs under the dash ( on the body computer I think ) then reconnected them...
Put the key in the ignition , turned to "mar".
My car then suprised me...
Every light had a failure come up
Flashing mileage
Fuel guage not working & flashing fuel light( full tank )
Can't lock car with alarm & remote (as if it thinks something is open)
I have to lock each door individualy with the key
I think the proxy alignment is out, I heard that an ecu reset is required .
Will the ecu reset on this site work?
well cant say for sure but sometimes when you extend out fully connections under the steering wheel can come loose i had it happen to me and with same result as your having.take of bottom couling and check right underneath steering wheel mine was a black connection . hope this helps a long shot . good luck..........
I've put down what I'd check if I had the symptoms you describe plus I can't see that an ECU reset can make anything worse!
Is it possible to reconnect the wires you disconnected the wrong way round - generally it isn't but worth a try
Did the connectors go fully home? On another car, I once had a spade connector in a plastic connector come loose so there was no connection.
Did anything else get disturbed?
Check the fuses
The connectors can't go in the wrong way as they have those levers that lock the connector in place.
I will chech again if they are fully home.
Not sure which fuses to check
I've just disconnected and reconnected them, problem is still there.
I also went for a drive , I then discovered that the rear indicators and rear fog light aren't working either . cant confirm if the break lights are working as I had no one to help me check.
Can't lock the car from the inside so I have to drive with the doors unlocked .
Not sure if its safe enough to drive anywhere without indicators and possibly break lights not working.
TheMystic.. do you have any contact details for Chris?
Think you may need to reset the ECU. You could take it to a dealer. Prob cost £100 or get alfadiag and and talk to rarebear. He will send you a cable. Cost a bit less. Then you could clear all the faults at least
Disconnect the battery and short the 2 power leads together, leave the battery disconnected for 15 minutes and then connect it back up positive first. THEN hold the + and - buttons in on the infocentre controls as you turn the key to MAR.
I managed to fix the problems myself just before seeing Smaky's and CJO's replies so couldn't use those methods.
What I did was ...
Disconnected the battery
Disconnected the connectors
Reconnected the battery
Disconnected the battery
Reconnected connectors
Reconnected the battery
I remember when I fitted the towbar to my 147, I did much the same. I disconnected the two big cables in the fuse board under the steering wheel in order to fit a iginition fed supply for my electrics. Upon reconnecting and starting the iginition to MAR, the car said immobliser error and the engine just would not fire up. I didnt have any error light though and it was cured after leaving it 30 minutes (I was pacing around like mad for 30 mins wondering what I had done and then came back and all worked!).
I think it has something to do with the Thatcham system to prevent hotwiring or something!
